Default doesnt connect any longer

ive been using limewire pro for several years now. but about a month ago, it just stopped connecting. its always stuck at "connecting" on the bar thingies. ive looked at all of my firewalls and have put it in the excepted list and followed all the instructions under the support page on the homepage. but nothing seems to work.

any help would be greatly appreciated

also, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it several times

It's great when we don't even know what OS you're using, let alone anything else

For Windows: Reinstall this version of Java, use the JRE offline installer. Remove your current version of Java before installing this one.
Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5

Now delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used much older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things.

Double check that LW's allowed through whatever software firewall you're using. You say that you've looked at all of your firewalls...don't use more than 1 software firewall. Running more than one will just cause trouble as they'll interfere with each other, rather than making you more secure!

If you're still stuck then please give some details.

What versions of LW & Java are you using (in LW click help > about LimeWire & you'll see the versions you're using)? Did you try changing Java versions as I suggested before? Did you also delete your preferences folder?

Your LW must be pretty old if there's no firewall icon. Some people can successfully run really old versions, others run into problems. If you have the installer for your old version (sounds like you do, if you've reinstalled a few times), you could try the latest LW 4.12.11. Just download the free basic version & see if it connects. Installing a new version will automatically remove the old one, so if you didn't have the Pro installer saved...you'd lose that version completely
Lime Wire » Download LimeWire

In LW go tools > options > bug reports > view example. Scroll down to 'recieved incoming this session'...if it's false, there's probably a firewall problem somewhere. In that case, double check that your XP firewall's off & that your ZA's configured to allow LW. You could also try port forwarding for your router. The instructions are here.
PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall

Don't forget the step of setting up a static IP address. LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within a router must all be the same number.

A few people have had issues with Cox, if you use the forum search to look for Cox you'll find more threads.

You may get better search results and slightly faster download speeds. Many people like basic just fine. It's up to you. For $18.88, you can't go wrong!
