Default Connection problem

My challenge is I connect but only with one bar and when I try a search I get a message stating "LimeWire is currently connecting to the network. Your search may not return many results until fully connected to the network". I have connected in the past and received excellent connections, my last successful connection was about 1 month ago, what has changed or gone wrong?

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Windows XP
2. What firewalls you have? Microsoft windows
3. How much ram? 512MB
4. Hard Disk space available? don't know
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) cable
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Modem = Scientific Atlanta model # DPC2100R2
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? House
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LW=4.10.5 Pro and java= 1.5.0_06
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Cox Cable
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Your test worked!
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. Old problem with an experienced user.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes

14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? Don't know, where might I find this info?

I'd say your problem is with Cox Cable as they are known to shape p2p usage...
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...-limewire.html

You could try changing your listen port number and change to manual port forward and put 64049 into both boxes and select apply..
To find this options go to Tools > Options > Advanced > Firewall..

Default Connection Problem

I Called Cox Cable and they informed me that they do not block anything higher than 1900 so using anything higher than that number in the port forward box should work fine. I also noticed that a lot of the instructions for port forwarding refer to routers, I do not have a router, I just go directly into my modem. I still can not get beyond the 1 bar and the "Limewire is connecting to the network" message when I try a search.
The support tech at Cox cable said it is not on their end. Whats weird is people with ISP's other than Cox are having the same problem.
Help please, I need my LimeWire.

Lots of ISP's all over the world shape or block p2p. Some do it at peak times. Some do it all the time. And some only do it to particular users when they detect they have been using more than average bandwidth. Cox is one of those. They pick on individuals. Of course they are going to say it's not them. Many if not most ISP's never admit they are secretly limiting your internet service. But then again, some people in support or front desk positions don't even know their company does that. You are the 2nd Cox user having the identical problem I have answered in last 15 mins. LW is zoomming along for me.

I am not computer savvy, where can I locate a step by step fix in everyday language for this problem?

Well, if Cox is responsible then chances are they might only be blocking LW. See if you have any success with this program Phex to see if you have the same problems.

I presume you tried changing the ports in LW like WW suggested. And also things to try are disconnecting after 20 mins & reconnect. And also trying at off-peak times such as between midnight & midday.

Default Connection problem

I have done the steps that were recommended as far as setting up the two gnutella ports and making sure that they match with the lime wire listen on port. I have worked with the firewall and it seems that everything i try i cannot get anything else except one bar and it stating "starting connection". Nothing comes up when i hit search on anything. Please help
