I downloaded a random file and recieved it @ 11am at a speed of 107kbps...
I don't understand why my downloads are so slow when downloading from other users though.
Things have still sort of sorted themselves out through the night i suppose.
On my laptop, the firewall is still visible on the globe :(
My pc's has gone but is still having the same affect on the speed...

Thanks for your help anyway guys :D

Oh, since you are all up on software and that :D
Do you know any programs which i could download and use for getting rid of adware/spyware? Just i've got random adverts popping up all over the place and they're really getting on my nerves...

Thanks,

Chris

Hi chrisallen89...What do you have on your lap top that may be different to your desk top...

Here are some really good freebie spyware and anti virus apps...Remember you can have all of the spyware apps on your comp as each one will detect something the other may of missed...But only use one anti virus app, if you have more than one they will clash...:)

Try this on your laptop...
Go to Tools > Options > Advanced > Firewall and select the manual port forward box, enter the same number as per the desk top and then enter the same number into the listen box and select apply...:fingers:

the highest speed ive been able to get is 40KB/s and that was around 11am. i thot that was good but if i can get 171 it would be a lot better. at hte minute im downloadin a file from 7 hosts through a canle connection and gettin on average 30KB/s. i rang bt but the guy didnt have a clue what i was on about. i looked at their website and apparently with an 8mb connection u should be able to download 1gb in 5 mins! any more ideas? still havent tried that magnet mix thing, whats it about?

Most British ISP's shape p2p at some point. Some 24 hours a day, some only during certain hours of day such as peak hours. Try downloding a file from the magnet site: + MagnetMix.com +: The Source for Good Content
If you find you get very low speeds then chances are your p2p use is being shaped.
Download speeds generally depend upon your sources of download. So try finding more sources.

Try checking the top speed of your router. Some routers will only handle 58mps and some will go as high as 108mbs. If u have one at 108mbs (or more) you may have to buy a bus adapter to be able to have full usage. Most laptops' wireless chips will not handle the higher speeds.
