Ok, did you delete your preferences folder(s)? Like I said in post #2?
If that doesn't help then please give us your details (see the blue 'system details' link in post #2).

ive been playing around with it but does EVERYTHING need to be joted down before I start with step 2

You only need to make a note of your settings if you think you'll have trouble resetting your options later on
