Unhappy Firewall try fix - now no connection

Okay I tried adding Gnutella to the Windows firewall like the LW site and here said to. Now I cannot connect - period.
Win XP
Qwest ISP
Lynks router with Actiontec modem - both brand new
Dell Dimension - plenty of RAM/memory as I ran LW before on this PC
Could not see the link page on the test

I have run LW before I got a new virus program - Websweeper. I no longer have other virus or protection programs. Uninstalled all of them and keeping only Websweeper.

I had the firewall blocked in LW - globe w/wall so I was working on trying to get it unlocked. Now my internet won't connect at all. I tried restoring my windows firewall but although Gnutella is not there anymore I still am totally blocked. Cannot even connect to the modem or router.

HELP!

Any suggestions?

Hi Moparkat
sorry bout the repete Q's

System details - help us to help you Please.

Recently there's been a problem with people not providing enough details about their setup - despite being asked again & again.
So let's make it easy for everyone...the details that we need if we're going to be able to help with complex problems are:

Cut n paste Just these Questions, put your answers in bold text Thank You.

1. what OS version (eg: Windows 98, XP,OSX, Vista) ?
2. What firewalls you have ?
3. How much ram ?
4. Hard Disk space available ?
5. Connection type (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) ?
6.Modem what brand name & model numbers ?
7.Router brand name & model numbers ?
8. Where are you trying to connect from (house, apartment complex, school, student accommodation, work, etc.) ?
9. What version,LimeWire & Java, are you using. Go to L/W's Help/About L/W, THIS show both LW & Java version.?
10. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider) ?
11. Do this test click here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ should say 'Your test worked!. What happens ?
12. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
13. Is this your 1st try at LW, or is this a new problem with an experienced user.?
14. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface ?
15. Have you given full permissions for LimeWire to pass through your Firewall ?
16. XP users, Please state XP firewall on or off.?
17. In Start & remove Programs, Is this update Installed, "Security Update for Windows XP (KB931261)" ?
If Windows Updates are not seen, Tick the box at top of page, (show updates)
18. Are you using Manual Port faward in LimeWire OR UPnP ?
You can check HERE, IN LimeWire Go, Tools/options/advanced/firewall Config

This information can be vital
For instance, some ISPs are known for blocking p2p/throttling bandwidth,
some connection devices are known for being unreliable in certain situations.

So please, help us to help you & provide as much info as you can.
If you're new to LW or new to computers & aren't sure how to answer some questions,
or don't know what an ISP or router is - just say so. Nobody's going to yell at you:wink:
Even if you can't answer all the questions in one go...don't worry. Do the best you can & we'll take it from there.

Unhappy Best I can since I am at work....

1. what OS version (eg: Windows 98, XP,OSX, Vista) ? XP
2. What firewalls you have ? Windows, router
3. How much ram ? 512
4. Hard Disk space available ? 20g
5. Connection type (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) ? DSL
6.Modem what brand name & model numbers ? Actiontec RI408 - brand new.
7.Router brand name & model numbers ? Lynksys 4port router BEFSR41
8. Where are you trying to connect from (house, apartment complex, school, student accommodation, work, etc.) ? home - currently at work because I can't get online at home. No LW at work - not allowed.
9. What version,LimeWire & Java, are you using. Go to L/W's Help/About L/W, THIS show both LW & Java version.? Just downloaded it 4.12.1? Java - will have to look later
10. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider) ? Qwest
11. Do this test click here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ should say 'Your test worked!. What happens ? Cannot connect - even before I got totally shut down
12. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. Router connects to PC and Xbox 360
13. Is this your 1st try at LW, or is this a new problem with an experienced user.? After installing Websweeper, sweeping PC, getting rid of viruses, removed LW, removed all other virus programs - starting over again.
14. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface ? Yes - hence trying to fix issues
15. Have you given full permissions for LimeWire to pass through your Firewall ? ???? Added Gnutella to Win Firewall, UPnP to router
16. XP users, Please state XP firewall on or off.? ON
17. In Start & remove Programs, Is this update Installed, "Security Update for Windows XP (KB931261)" ? Don't know - system just updated something but now I am not online.
If Windows Updates are not seen, Tick the box at top of page, (show updates)
18. Are you using Manual Port faward in LimeWire OR UPnP ? UPnP on router enabled. Gnutella port matches LW port in advanced tab.

OK - so I cannot connect at home anymore after doing the Gnutella change in the Win Firewall. So I restored to default in the Win Firewall and still NADA!

Default reconnected - but LW still firewalled

Reset the router.
Java is 1.6.0_1

Router has LimewireTCP and UCP located in it now - matching LW program port. Win Firewall has Gnutella 127.0.0.1 with matching LW port.

LW changed its firewall settings to manual port with matching all the others. It had been on UPnP before.

LW bottom left states "LW is connecting to the network" with just one green bar out of the 5 present.

How many firewalls are there?

Anyone else use Websweeper?

Try this version of Java instead, some people have had trouble with 1.6.0_01.
Use the offline installer & remove your current Java version before you install this one
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

Try port forwarding for the Linksys, the instructions are here.
Port Forwarding for the Linksys BEFSR41
Don't forget to set up a static IP address first. LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within the router must all be the same number.

Default Will do - trying new Java

In the meantime. I noticed the test site is for port 6346 but my LW and applications are on 2740.

Will that make a difference on running LW.

The test site is just for LW's default port (useful to see whether the default port's being blocked...often by an ISP).

AFAIK Qwest don't block LW, but maybe that's changed?
Try changing ports. In LW tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Change LW's listening port to 64049 (or something in the range of 49152 - 65535). Apply to save a change.
Any ports forwarded within a router & port in the 'manual port forward' box will also have to change.

Default New firewall program installed

Installed Comodo Firewall. Disabled Win Firewall. Allowed LW to be a "server" in the Comodo's settings.
Now the router does not have LW - have no clue what happened to it. There one minute - gone the next.

This is how I've allowed LW thru my Comodo firewall (followed instructions posted on the Comodo forum). Click on the link below.

Your router has a firewall, which is why I suggested port forwarding...did you try that?
