First time LW user, it won't connect
 
Okay, I have one green bar and brick wall in front of the globe. I know a little about computers, but not a ton. I would appreciate any help I can get. Here is some information about my computer. If I forgot something let me know and I will try to get it. Thanks.:)

OS Version: Windows XP
What Firewalls: Windows firewalls
How much Ram: 896 MB
Hard Disk: 75.3 GB
Connection Type: Cable/DSL
ISP: Embarq
Modem and Router, Brand name and model number: MODEM: Embarq 660 series. ROUTER: Linksys Model number: WRT54G
Trying to Connect from: apartment complex
What version of LimeWire and Java: LIMEWIRE: 4.10.9 Java: 1.5.0_07
Test: Says “Your Test worked!”
Are you sharing connection: no, I don’t think.
1st time using limewire

I do not know if I am port forwarding. I don’t even know what that means.
Currently no antivirus installed at all

Make sure that your Windows firewall is configured to allow LW.
Firewall setup

Try using this version of Java. Use the JRE offline installer & remove your current Java version before you install the new one.

Your router has a firewall. Try port forwarding. The instructions are here.

Don't forget the step of setting up a static IP address first;) LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within the router must all be the same number!

If you still have problems, maybe there's a firewall associated with the apartment complex's internet? You'd have to ask the complex's manager about that:)

I'd advise you to get some AV protection if you're going to be using LW...there are heaps of infected files being shared! Check the link below for info about reliable, free AV etc.
