Question My wife can connect, but I can't

My wife installed LimeWire a while ago. We share the same computer. She is able to connect and download files, but I am not. When I start LimeWire, it just sits there doing nothing. If I mouse-over the five bars in the lower left-hand corner, it says that it's connecting to the network, but it never does. I've left it up for 5-10 minutes and it still does not connect.

If I log in under my wife's profile and start LimeWire, it connects in about a minute. I know something is wrong with my profile, but I can't find anything different. We are both Windows Administrators on the machine. We have the same Windows Firewall ports open.

Where should I look to begin the troubleshooting process?

Ken

My system information follows:
1. OS version: Windows XP SP2

2. Firewalls:

b) Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2007 (Build 8.32.1003 / 4.547.00)

3. RAM: 2GB

4. Hard Disk space:
C: Drive - 41.26 GB
D: Drive - 47.68 GB

5. Connection type: Verizon DSL

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers: Westell VersaLink Model 327W

7. Trying to connect from: Home

8. LimeWire (LW) & Java Versions
LimeWire - 4.12.6
Java - 1.6.0_01

9. ISP: Verizon

10. Simple test results: 'Your test worked!'

11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? No

12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user? This is my first try.

13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes

14. Port forwarding or UPnP enabled?
a) Port Forwarding enabled for DNS, HTTP and HTTPS

You have a firewall issue there. You should not run both firewalls at once. Choose either XP or PC-cillin as 2 software firewalls will clash with side-effects & result in less security not more. Try that for a start by turning one off.

Also, try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

If that doesn't fix things, then go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & change ports to a higher one between 49152 - 6553, such as 64049. Sometimes some routers will not allow the same port to be used by a different user in same session (unless computer rebooted between users.) So changing the port used by your LW should fix this. Your wife's LW leave alone. lol (Here's a sample image of where to find it but as suggested, change port number to those listed above Manual port forward instructions & sample image)

Ooh if you change the port, then be sure to replicate the port change in any firewall settings including both software firewall & router if required by the device.

Default Not there yet, but thanks.

Sorry I didn't write back sooner, I never got the email notification that you replied.

Anyway, I have done the following:
1) I turned off the Windows Firewall.
2) I deleted my preferences folder.
3) Changed my port to be 50000. I also changed it in the PC-cillin firewall.

As of this writing, I'm still not able to connect. I'll leave it open for little while to see if it just needs more time.

I'll be eagerly awaiting the next steps.
