drpenrose Hi. Roll back your java, that version is not working with XP properly Now! Go to, START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs, now completely remove all versions of java. Re BOOT Your computer NOW. Now! Use this Blue Link to get "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 12" Use the off line installer, NOT the (recommended) one, 4th one down. Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5 When Download is completed. Disconnect from internet, close ALL apps n reinstall java. Only use one firewall, 2 running will conflict with each other, turn XP off. Universal Plug and Play may not be working properly Due to this update. "Security Update for Windows XP (KB931261)" Removing this update is not Recommended & could make your computer vulnerable to attack. For more info on this update, click on this blue link. Thanks for the suggestions Unfortunately they didn't fix the problem. I did almost everything to the letter until it got to the part in the Norton's port-forwarding that told me to change the port to something between 10000 & 60000. Not knowing which numbers I could use, I decided I'd better leave that alone. I'm beginning to think my ISP is blocking P2P file sharing traffic because I downloaded and installed Bitspirit thinking I'd have to use something other than LW. Bitspirit also won't work. Any thoughts on whether or not a reputable computer shop repair would touch this - being as P2P file sharing is supposed to be illegal.... Thanks again! |
