Default Connection Problems

I am having problems connecting to Limewire. I receive the response most receive, "LimeWire is currently connecting to the network. Your search may not return many results until you are fully connected to the network." I have reviewed a lot of the message boards and tried the solutions offered but no success. I am running Windows Vista Ultimate. I run Norton 360 and have a Linksys Router. I have Comcast Cable (formally, Road Runner in Houston). I have opened the necessary ports. I have disabled both of my firewalls without success. I have used my ******** Wireless card without success. I have even tried using dial-up without success. I am not a newbie so this is very frustrating. I was running LimeWire Pro 4.8.1 and upgraded to 4.13.12 (free) because I did not want to pay for Pro if I was still going to receive connection problems. I am running Java 1.6.0_01. Any suggestons would be greatly appreciated.

Just to be a little more specific ... can you answer these questions to make it easier for us: System details - help us to help you (click on blue link) Yes I know you already answered or partly answered some.

Have you tried deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

I have 2GB or RAM. I have over 150GB on 1 drive and over 90 GB on the other. I have tried to connect from my house and my office without success (I have it installed on my computer at home and my laptop). I performed the simple test and I received the message "Your test worked". I am not sharing the computers. This is not my first try with LV. I used it for over 2 years without problems. I started to have problems approximately 2 months ago. I do receive the brickwall in front of my blue world. As I stated, I have configured my firewalls and even disabled them without success. The only solution I have not tried is deleted my LV preferences. How do I do this in Vista. I have found the file, do I just delete it? What settings do I need to remember? Do I need to replace the file with something else? Thanks.

You just delete that LW preferences folder. When you next open LW, it will ask you the set up options again. That's why it's wise to make a note of your settings before you delete the folder. Things like speed settings, any keywords filtered, any ip's banned, changing days to keep incompletes to a large number like 999.

You will find instructions about how to delete the prefs folder for Vista in the Vista section of the forums (check the sticky at top of that section.)

Normally you should only have one software firewall operational. If you choose to use Norton, then disable the Windows firewall. They DO clash & cause problems. With Norton you need to be careful with the firewall. Everytime you update Norton or LimeWire, you need to reset your clearance for LW in the firewall. Reconfiguring Norton Firewall

What model linksys router do you have?
