| Hello my names Nick, as you can see I'm new to this board. Alright well Limewire will open up but the connection is 1 bar, and it says there is a firewall blocking it, which is wrong. I have exceptions for Limewire, and the port number that I use in my firewall. I also use uTorrent, which can't connect. Limewire doesn't work on my brothers laptop either, which he is connected to this computer from Netgear. BTW, just 3 days ago I had re-formated my computer and gotten a new modem. The modems firewall is OFF. The modem would be, Siemens Speedstream 4200. Thanks in advance for any help at all. EDIT: Btw, I'm deffinatly not new to computers, so if you need to give me the most detailed of solutions, then do so. Last edited by Killahsmoke; July 27th, 2007 at 08:50 PM. |

| I also have had trouble getting a connection with only one bar lit up. I was using Limewire just fine for about 6 months when about five days ago my signal was stuck at 1 bar. I have un installed and re installed Limewire while also dropping it out of my Firewalls exceptions list and entering it back again. I read something about the router and a firewall but none of that makes sense to me. If the router has a firewall how do I find it and make changes? I have checked for viruses and the sort and can find none. I have several logos in my firewall listings and many of them are not lit up with color and they all say (This Rule is Temporarily Disabled). I use Defender Pro Anti Virus and Firewall. Now I have checked the boxes on the temporarily disabled sites but when I go back all my changes are reversed. I use an Actiontec 56 k External Modem and my personal computer is a Dell Dimension 8200. I can't remember how much hard drive I am using. I know I have cleared a ton of stuff out of it so that should not be the problem. Any help on this would be much appreciated. On a side note, this has nothing to do with p2p or Limewire but my system restore has not worked since I got this used computer and I have checked to see if I have too much garbage in my hard drive. I have plenty of room but this problem still exist. Could something be corrupted? This is really not a big issue so if no info is available for this that is fine, I just want an idea what may have went wrong with Limewire for it to just stop working. |

| I have Windows XP Home I use Defender Pro Firewall and Anti-Virus Windows Firewall Off My main drive: Size 18.61 GB Free Space: 10.78 GB Available ] My connection type is dial up. I use an ActionTec 56K External Modem Connecting From Home Computer My isp is PeoplePC regular Was using LW 4.14 and JRE 1.6.0_01 when my problem began I have since added Frostwire 4.13.1 and updated LW which did not work still yet. I also upgraded to the newest version of JRE and un installed my Limewire when it did not work in favor of trying FW. Neither Limewire nor Frostwire has worked as I am stuck at 1 bar. I canceled out my exceptions on my firewall and reinstalled Limewire once but it did no good. On direct connect on Frostwire it reads (YOUR COMPUTER IS BEHIND A FIREWALL OR ROUTER AND CANNOT RECEIVE DIRECT CONNECTIONS. I don't understand direct connections so I doubt this means anything. Still I don't know how to change a firewall in the router if there is such a thing. I know my firewall service is working and I have LW as an exception. I have done the test and everything checks out. I am sharing my connection with BitTorrent. I have been using Limewire for about six months and hae made only minor changes to my computer before now. Limewire connection just quit. I have always had the brickwall in front of the blue planet icon since I started but it never hindered my use of Limewire. I am UPnP enabled. I am in the USA (State of Tx) My Limewire worked fine and I can't understand what I may have done to screw it up. Any help on this would be much appreciated. My e mail address is ******* ________________________________________ Edited to comply with the House Rules. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. | Killahsmoke, Has LW worked since you upgraded to Java 1.6.0_02? A few people have had problems with that version. Try this one instead. Use the JRE offline installer & remove your current Java version(s) before installing this one. Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11 Make sure that you don't have a Windstream firewall running as well. Check out the thread below. Cant Connect Also delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location). Fixes for LimeWire This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later. Your Speedstream 4200 has a firewall. Try port forwarding, the instructions are here. Port Forwarding for the Siemens 4200 Don't forget the step of setting up a static IP address first. LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within the Speedstream all have to be the same number ![]() Knight35, Install the Java version that I recommended for Killahsmoke (1.5.0_11). Also delete your preferences folder as I recommended for Killahsmoke. Make sure that your Defender Pro firewall's still allowing LW. What's the model of your Actiontec? |
