Question Uhhhhhhh

Well I guess I forgot to mention that my P-Cillin version is Internet Security 14, not the 2007 one I saw on the link you gave me so the instructions were quite confusing since I had some different features. I tried it anyway and at the end of all that my program wouldn't accept the new rule. Ithen took a look at the router instructions and quickly gave up. I did manage to go in and set my Limewire to the manual port thing but it was already enabled for the unp thingy which is the recommended option so I hope I haven't screwed things up. I set the maual port number to the same one as the listening port was already set to since the instructions said to just pick a port. did I mention that my connection status in limewire always says turbo-charged? I can download files and others can upload. It just seems that there are fewer search results and slower spped for searches and downloads than there were before i upgraded past the 4.12 versions. well actuall 4.13 worked fine for a little while before going all buggy on me. What I'm really asking is do I really need to do all this if I actually have a connection? I am able to download files, just not as many or as fast as before on many of them. I still do get some higher speed ones but not often.

If your downloading and uploading fine you don't have to worry about Port Forwarding...But it could be the cause of slow search results and download speed...

I think what I'm going to do is to go back and reinstall the earlier version I was using before the 4.13. I think that 4.12 had that search feature in the library that I really want and need since I have over 3000 files. or I could try 4.13 again and maybe the next download of it will be better than the last one. If I uninstall limewire completely and all the old folders of the previous versions before reinstalling, will I lose all my files and have to start over? I'm not sure if all the upgrades I've done just installs over the old versions and leaves them or if it deletes them first. If they're still there I could just go back and find it and use that and uninstall this version.

No need to uninstall, just install the version you want to use know over the top of your existing limewire...

If you do choose to uninstall make sure you use the Limewire uninstaller, which you will find in Start > All Programs > Limewire/Uninstaller...
Dont' use the add/remove programs...
Your files will all still be there if you do choose the uninstall option...

Lightbulb Earlier Version

Well, I wish they'd just go back and add the search feature for the library to the 4.12 versions. I can do without the rest since everything seemed to work better. it was jsut a pain to sort through over 3000 files when I was ready to burn files. I always tried to download stuff with the band name and not something that started with a number or song or album title. that way I didn't have to hunt high and low for every single thing-they'd all be in one place and I could just scroll down the alphabetical list to get to it. Maybe I should suggest this in the new feature request forum.

Question Re-installing

Okay, let me make sure I understand. I can reinstall LW without have to first uninstall it? I printed off instructions in the post about fixes when LW isn't working that say to first uninstall LW using the LW uninstaller and then reinstall using the offline installer. I went back to Java 5 update 12 and also deleted my LW preference folder and ended up losing my downloaded themes, which really sucks because I can't seem to download them back, not in LW anyway and I don't do the zipped file thingy from the interent option because Zips make me want to pull my hair out. None of this speeded anything up and I still have the brick wall but I am able to download some songs but not like before with the 4.12 version. I found out that my personal download/update page I have with my Pro version does have the option to install earlier versions so I want to reinstall the 4.12 version and I'll just have to bloody well get used to not having that neat little search function for the library anymore but it beats not being able to get much to look in the library for in the first place. I'm afraid to totally uninstall limewire first because I don't want to lose anything else. I don't know why I lost the themes. Couldn't I just install the other version first and then unintall the old one? But I think LW automatically uninstalls the older version when you're installing the new one. And why is it so important to use an offline version? I apologize if I've asked anything that has already been answered somewhere on this forum but after 2-3 days of almost contant searching in here and messing around with LW, I just couldn't read anymore posts. Sorry this post is so long. I'll try to leave y'all alone some if I ever get back to where I was happily downloading everyday.

The importance of the offline installer use lies with the danger that using the onli9ne installer, some data packages could get lost and the installation corrupted.

As for your connection problem, hmm, go to Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewall Configuration and look what Listening port you have. There you can also check if UPnP is enabled or not. If it isn't, click it.

Then take the listening number (note it down on a piece of paper) and try to open the TCP and UDP for this listening port in your Firewall (if possible) and router (if possible). But do this while LW is closed. The restart your computer and LW and see what happens. It might take some time till any chnages are visible...

Cheers
FOTH

Question About your suggestion to open ports in firewall and router

I'm not sure I know how to do that. I'm no idiot with computers but I'm not as advanced as many folks on this forum. I have trend micro P-cillin security 14 and it's a bit tricky to me. for one thing when I was following instructions to make an exception for limewire you can only check outoging or incoming, not both like in the 2007 version shown in the sample given in the instructions. So I chose incoming even though I don't really know what it is that is "incoming". Downloads, Uploads? but I'll at least try to go in there and look to see if i can find what you're talking about. and I have no idea how to access my router.
