Default Yet another connection problem!

Hi, just wanted to add my problem to the pile...

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Windows XP Pro SP2
2. What firewalls you have? Zonealarm 7
3. How much ram? 1GB
4. Hard Disk space available? ~20GB
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Broadband
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Netgear Super Wireless ADSL Router DG834GT
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? House
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LW ver. 4.14.5, Java ver. 1.6.0_02
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Sky
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Test works
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. Shared with 3 other computers through the router, none currently connected. No other p2p software running.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. 1st try in this house, on this connection. Worked fine with my old (now dead) router and ISP.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...1&d=1158099342
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? Pretty much Sky's default settings, no ports forwarded/firewall rules set. Have tried creating an exception for Limewire's port + turning Zonealarm off with no luck. Two weird entries under "UPnP portmap table": UDP, (a number) int. port, (another number) ext port, my (current) network IP address, UDP, (3rd number) int port, (4th number) ext port, to another IP on our network. If you need to know what those ports are, please ask.
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall AVG Free
16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). England

I'm getting the same message as others, it seems. LW gives me one green bar and is permanently "connecting to the network". I'm (obviously) allowing it access in Zonealarm's program list and I've tried allowing it through my router's firewall too (although that might not be on anyway). I doubt there's a conspiracy with Limewire but it seems weird that I'm getting firewalled without a firewall! If anyone has the time to look my problem, I'd be really grateful!

Thanks!

Some of the problem might be SKY. See here.
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/downlo...nging-isp.html.
I will also take a look at you're router to see if it has a NAT Firewall.

Hey, thanks for the replies! I thought it might possibly be Sky's fault since d/l-ing with Sky is "variable" to say the least. I'll give those ideas a go and let you know how I get on.

Cheers

QuiteAnnoyed Hi.

Try switching to Manual Port forward using port numbers between 45000 To 65000
Both Manual Port forward No, & listening port should be set at the same number
In LimeWire, GO to Tools/Options/Advanced/Firewall Config & use Manual Port forward.

Then Port forward your router,

Port Forwarding for the Netgear/DG834GT
Follow this link it will open on the page you need to PortForward your router.
Use this blue link. & don't forget to create a static IP first, as instructed , & click apply after changing each setting.

True, you were both incredibly quick to reply. On a saturday too!

I changed the port used by limewire, forwarded it to my PC (static IPed) and allowed it in the router firewall but, sadly, that didn't work. Is there a plan b)..?

Hi QuiteAnnoyed.

I'm taking it already, that you have turned XP firewall OFF,

OK!! Roll back your java to JRE) 5.0 Update 12
Now! Go to,
START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs,
now completely remove all versions of java.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Use this Blue Link to get "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 12" Use the off line installer, NOT the (recommended) one, 4th one down.
Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5
When Download is completed.
Disconnect from internet, close ALL apps n reinstall java.
If that don't fix it, I would give your ISP a ring & ask what is their policy on P2P
or more to the point Limewire.
Peace.

Aha, I'll give that a shot although I tested Limewire on my laptop and it works (no brick wall, normal connection). It's running the same version of Java as my PC and presumably everyone with a fully updated JRE can't be having my problem..?

At least it means my ISP doesn't mind Limewire!

Thanks again.
