Connection Problems Problems getting the LimeWire or WireShare program connecting to the Gnutella network. (not about connecting to files, that is a Download/Upload Problems section issue.) Please supply system details as described in the forum rules.

Default one bar connection-soon I'm gonna need a bar...

Limewire has worked until my computer crashed, got it working, re-installed java & limewire...now can't get past the first band...have opened ports...beyond that I can't follow the complicated instructions and don't know what to choose or what to do! And want to understand why it worked before and not now...(thus isp, router, ram, disk should be fine)
Also, when I turn off windows firewall, it limewire still shows a firewall. hmm...
OS version? (eg: Windows 98)xp
2. What firewalls you have?windows
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? lynksys
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)?home
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. most recent
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)?rogers
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?yes
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.

12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.Experienced-this is a recent problem
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface?Yes-even when the firewall is turned off!!

14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled?
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall

Try these fixes...
Try uninstalling all versions of Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version....
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11


If that does not help with your problem try deleting your preference folder/s...
Fixes for Limewire when LW isn't operating as it should

If that doesn't help what is the model number for your Linskys...

Thank you for trying to help me...I've spent many days and am about to give up. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Java & Limewire, as directed. I removed the preference thing. I don't know where to do this step, and am not confident that it'll work!: : Windows NT 4.0 / 2000 / XP: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire OR

Yep get rid of the .limewire and also the LimeWire...
Just follow Lotr's pic's in the Sticky and you won't go wrong...

I have 6 of .limewires (there are 2 others that use the computer) Delete them all??

I'm laughin, I'm cryin. I deleted and reinstalled lw & java. I now removed the 6 .limewire. It, well, it worked.
I'm a wreck and you're a genius.
I hope that this ends our relationship
