Reading through your equipment details has thrown up a couple of mysteries for me, they are:

1) In your answer to question 13, part of your answer was this:
Quote:

Yes, but Firewall is configured to allow connection from limwire. Router is configured to manually foward ports
I'm not sure if you mean your router has been set up to port forward Limewire or forward ports in general. Could you let me know which?

2) You have not answered question 14 about whether you have UPnP installed on your setup, can you say if you have it or not?

Get back to the forum asap and we will see what we can do.

Yes my router is set up for UPnP.

Sorry, but yes I ment that the ports for Limewire that needed to be fowarded are. In my case I am using 9836.

You will have to delete your LW preference folder, this link will tell you where it is and how to delete it:

http://www.gnutellaforums.com/window...tml#post115445

You will loose all your LW options and settings, which you will have to manually re-enter, but once done you should find that LW has improved.

Let us know how you get on.

Still no luck after deleting the folder. Its really odd. I have tried all those options on that page before. I think I'm just out of luck. I know my ISP is not blocking it because my neighbor can still use it.

Reading back over our post, and trying to figure out what is wrong, you said:
Quote:

Yes my router is set up for UPnP
Have you also set UPnP on your WinXP O/S and on LW?

If not, here is a link leading to a list of instructions you should follow:

Again, let us know how you get on.

Uk Bob,

So I set UPnP on XP as you suggested. I logged onto my router to ensure that UPnP was enabled and it was. But I regret to inform you that for some reason beyond my understanding still no connection.

I am having the same problem ... I think. LW was working fine a few weeks ago now nothing. It opens ok, I can type in my search ok, it looks like its loading a list but nothing appears in the box.
What's going on?

birdy September 7th, 2007 09:53 PM

firecracker76,

Are you connected properly (how many green connection bars do you see)?
If your connection is ok, try this: Problems with the search

And if that's no help, delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things.
LimeWire Pref Folder in Vista

In LW go tools > options > searching > basic & check whether the 'show license warning' box is ticked. If it does, untick it > Apply > ok...see if that makes any difference.

If there's a connection problem, please give us your details.

argueta42,

Were you using Java 1.6.0_02 before the reformat, when LW was working? Some people have found that their LW won't connect when using that Java. You could try this one instead. Download the JRE offline installer & remove your current Java version before you install this one.

Persistant and unwanted restarts

Usually I have no complaints with LM but now I do. Over the past few days it's impossible to get rid of it. I close it and it reopens.. I close it.. and it reopens ad nauseam. I've unchecked the autostart at log on but thats made no difference it still starts up seemingly with a mind of it's own. I have deleted LM and reinstalled again thinking that would cure the problem but it hasn't. Any advice welcome.
Second part.
In the library/ programs section there are 50 plus " downloads " that I know nothing about nor want but can't see a way to delete them. How can I get rid of this unwanted dross ?
Thanks :-))

Hi Gazzbe, sounds like you have contracted a virus. See below fix.

Your Insurmountable Problem

Argueta42

I've been going over the previous posts about your problem and the solutions suggested so far. And I am just as stumped as you are, so much so that I am starting to think that your equipment may have a fault somewhere.

However, you said that you have a laptop and a desktop, from this I presume that your desktop is connected via a patch cable to the modem and your laptop is connected wirelessly.

OK, if I am right then I would suggest that you check your desktop "port forwarding" configuration again, because I have recently found that when I upgraded my LW Pro to V4.18.4 my port forwarding settings no longer worked.

What seem to have happened was that my original PF settings were changed by my modem, my PC's name was converted to an IP address, and this would not work for V4.18.4. So when I changed the modem's allocated IP address back to my computer's name LW Pro 4.18.4 started to work and has been working ever since.

If this works for your desktop then apply the same solution to your laptop and if that works as well then add the TweakMaster utility as well:

TweakMASTER - The Supreme Internet Optimizer

It can help in maintaining your wireless connection (my son uses this to strengthen his wireless connection to my modem).

WOW....Really Wierd...

Uk Bob,

Now I really have no idea what happened or how it happened, but here goes. I was on base, Camp Pendleton California, on duty and I was able to catch an internet connection off of someone in the barracks. So I started LW, just to see what might happen. Well it connected. So I come home, and start my laptop, and blam it connects at home too. Now even my desktop works. I have no clue??? Odd, but it seems to be working fine now.
Thanks for the help.

Well Argueta42

As long as it works, all's well that ends well.

Totally dumbfounded and gobsmacked
