One Bar (tried everything Else)

OS version? Windows 2003??? This maybe it. Not sure to be honest, I'll restart my comp and check

8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? LW 4.14.10 Java 5.0 update 11
9. Who is your ISP? insight
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? says "Your test worked" -> worked
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? No

P.S. I've tried to delete the .limewire folder but it didn't exist. I did find a folder in c:\documents&setting\User_Name\ApplicationData\Lim eWire
and I deleted that folder. After I did that the next time that I set up LW I had resets my preferences/info. Please help me! Thanks

birdy October 3rd, 2007 11:47 PM

When you delete the prefs folder, all options are reset to default. So, at least we know you deleted that folder properly! You'll have to make sure that you go through LW's options & reset everything (don't forget things like days to keep incomplete files;)).

Just right click on My Computer > properties > general & you'll see your OS.
Make sure that LW's being allowed through the Windows firewall. More info in the link below.
User Cant Connect - LimeWire

In LW file > disconnect. Wait a few minutes then file > connect.

Did you use the offline installer for your Java? Do you have any other Java versions on your computer? If so, go to add/remove programs & remove other versions.

In LW tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Change LW's listening port to 64049 > apply > ok. You can also try other ports in the range of 49152 - 65535.

AFAIK there's no firewall in your modem, do you have a router as well?

mkaftani October 4th, 2007 06:52 AM

I have xp 2002, no router- just the modem. AND when ever I connect to limewire it starts by trying to locate peers for the itunes thing, it says that it can't find them. Also, when I had to change preferences it doesn't ask my how many days I want incomplete files, it justs asks me what language I want, if I want it to launch on startup, and if I want it to automatically connect. Also, when I get the one bar, and then disconnect, then try to reconnect it freezes. When ever I hit the reconnect it freezes.

Lord of the Rings October 4th, 2007 07:21 AM

1. Go to LW's menu bar, Tools -> Options -> Saving & change days to keep incompletes to 9999.
2. Windows Firewall - LimeWire to configure your XP firewall.
3. Oh! I just realised your are an Insight user. See their listing here ISP's known to BLOCK or Filter p2p or specifically Limewire as they don't block users immediately from using LW.
4. As for the freezing, I'm not sure. I've seen similar issues for searching peers for iTunes. Go to Tools -> Options -> iTunes -> Sharing & disable iTunes support. You should set LW to connect manually not automatically. Tools -> Options -> Connections & disable. Let LW settle for a few mins before trying to connect via File menu.

I've sent in a message to Telenor in Norway, which is a well-known ISP in Norway, and as soon as I get mail from 'em, I'll post it here, for the Norwegian P2P-users..;)

Mizz Matrix October 7th, 2007 11:34 PM

Okay, I got a mail from Telenor, and they say that they don't block P2P-trafic, unless they've noticed high trafic from my IP, but if so, they would have noticed me... so, my ISP is not the problem, obviusly...

Lord of the Rings October 8th, 2007 12:11 AM

I've heard of iTunes interfering. Did you disable iTunes sharing in LW & disable sharing option in iTunes?

Mizz Matrix October 8th, 2007 12:39 AM

you know, I think I'm gonna start writing EEEEVERY kind of troubleshooting-points we all make, and make ONE document and post it..:D we have sooo many threads and sooo many problems, that we need is one single document that we can search through..;) MAN, I'm a genius..:P

Ok there's quiet a few things to do here....So get ready for a really long reply...:D

Firstly do this...
Try uninstalling all versions of Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version....
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

Then make sure you uninstalled limewire before the correct way...If you did this Start > all programs > limewire/uninstaller...that is the correct way...
But if you uninstalled using the add/remove programs you will now have to do this...
Use your computer's search to look for all files & folders with limewire in the name. If you can't delete them, reboot into safe mode & then try. If they still won't delete, try one of the tools here...
Incomplete Download File won't delete at all.

Now even though you have ZoneAlarm disabled it has been noted that Vista users need to uninstall Limewire, then uninstall ZA, then re-install limewire and then reinstall ZA...In that order (Don't ask why it works, it just does ;)) So do that...

Now go with that and see if you can get connected, with your router are you sure it's a tdk110, I didn't see any info for that model (if you turn the router upside down it will tell you...;))

Oh and one last thing Virgin are known to block p2p apps at certain times of the day they call it their peak time...:o

thanks dude, i think is working now, i tryed deleting the files, at first they wouldn't go but whe i restarted, they dissapeared

as for zone alarm i uninstalled, but now i cannot install it.

dunno if i can safely work with just symantec antivirus or i need zone alarm??

let me know

cheers, very helpful mate

wondering why October 10th, 2007 01:00 AM

Maybe you might have to do a full computer search for ZoneAlarm and delete anything that may of been left behind...Then try re-installing it...

Do you know if your symantec antivirus has firewall capabilities ?? If it hasn't and you want extra protection from using a firewall besides the one that comes with Vista, and you can't get ZA to work let me know and I will ask around about another firewall for you...;)
