![]() Hi, I started using limewire about a year ago and it worked great for about 6 months and then inexplicably stopped working and I've tried on and off for a few months to connect again. I have completed uninstalled limewire and deleted all files and reinstalled several times, and I still haven't been able to connect. I've read through so many of these threads and I've tried everything I know how to do. some of these things I don't know how to do and I'd really love some help because not having limewire is driving me nuts! System details: 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Windows XP 2. What firewalls you have? windows and McAfee. I've checked both of these and they are not blocking limewire. 3. How much ram? sorry, I don't know how to get this info. 4. Hard Disk space available? sorry, I don't know how to get this info. 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Cable 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Modem: Terayon TJ 716x. I don't believe I have a router, my computer is not connected to any others. 7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? House. 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. Limewire version 4.14.10, Java 1.5.0_03 9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? AOL Time Warner 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? page says "your test worked" 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No, i'm not sharing the connection with other computers. I have installed morpheus (which is useless compared to limewire), but the problems with limewire started long before that. 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. I was able to successfully download from limewire for about the first six months after I installed it, but it's been over six months since I've been able to use it. 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes, there is a brick wall, although I cannot figured what is firewalled. I have one green connection bar. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...1&d=1158099342 14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? I do not know about this. I do not know how to do this, would love some directions ![]() 15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall ![]() the only security program I know I have running is McAfee, but I have set it to allow access for limewire. 16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). I am in the United States. I know there are hundreds of other people with the same problem but I really have read through the threads and I still need help. I'd really appreciate it. We all love limewire so much and it really sucks when you get to use it for awhile and see how great it is and then it just gets cruelly ripped out from under you! ![]() Thanks in advance! |

![]() This could be a lot of the problem. Ok, I uninstalled my Java and installed another updated java online because I couldn't install offline at that page you redirected me to. When I tried my computer said windows can't open this file because it doesn't know which program created it, etc... so I installed the most recent java. Still can't connect. I may have said the wrong thing when I said AOL Time Warner. Time Warner is my internet service provider but i don't think I actually use AOL. I do have an AOL instant messenger program downloaded but that is the only AOL service I use. I remember reading somewhere in these forums that Time Warner doesn't block these p2p programs, so I'm not sure that my ISP is the problem. I don't understand why there is the brick wall in front of the globe icon because my Windows Firewall is turned off entirely and my McAfee is set to accept Limewire. Are you suggesting that I uninstall my AOL instant messenger thing? Could that somehow be blocking Limewire? I'm also wondering if the problem might be with my Terayon modem, like I have to configure some Upnp or something? I'm sorry but I really don't know what any of this stuff is so I can't talk about it in the right lingo! Any other suggestions? Thanks! |

![]() remoc, thanks for checking up on my modem. I thought maybe it wasn't upnp enabled and I had to manually port-forward (these are just words i've read here and I don't know what they mean ![]() Bueller? Bueller? thanks for the help so far. |

![]() Also, I've tried this one fix twice that everyone keeps suggesting and has worked for some people on the board. That one where you're supposed to find the file folder ".limewire" and delete it? I don't understand how that is working for anyone because every time I have tried to delete the file username/.limewire, when I restart limewire after its gone limewire takes me through the entire installation process all over again. Its like erasing that file uninstalls limewire. and after i go through the installation process again I still have only one green bar and a brick wall in front of the globe. So I am stumped once again. |
