Default Connection troubles with xp

Hi, I've been using limewire for about a year with no trouble, then I upgraded to pro and since have been unable to connect. The connection bars at the bottom only show one green and the firewall symbol is there. I clicked the test link and got "your test worked". The other link gave me a good connection symbol for a few seconds then switched to a firewall symbol. If I start limewire and watch the connection tab it shows nothing for a minute or so, then rapidly scrolls through a bunch of info for 2 seconds then nothing again. Here is all the requested info that I know:

1) Windows xp
2) no firewalls that I can determine. windows firewall is disabled and there are no security programs in the task bar up top.
3) 480 megs ram
4) 61 gigs available
5) dsl
7) house
8) 4.14.10 java 1.5.06
9) bellsouth
16) U.S.

Thats everything I can think of, I hope someone can come up with an idea. I'm going nuts trying to figure this out. Thanks.

Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.

Update your Java. You can try the latest Java update. Use the JRE offline installer & remove your current Java version(s) before installing.
Java SE Downloads

If that doesn't help then try this older Java version & see if it makes any difference. Again, use the JRE offline installer & remove any other Java versions before installing this one.

Rather than running without a firewall, it's better to have 1 firewall running & allowing LW
User Cant Connect - LimeWire

Are you using a modem/router? If there's an internal firewall within, that could be effecting your connection. We'll need the brand & model...if nothing's showing on top of the device, have a look underneath
