Try to make your post descriptive, specific, and clear so members can quickly and efficiently help you. To aid helpers in solving download/upload problems, LimeWire and Frostwire users must specify whether they are downloading a torrent file or a file from the Gnutella network. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving. Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity) Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum. Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules. Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning.  firewall problem help me. (Linux)  I am new to this and am trying to get LimeWire to connect on a fedora 7 OS, but I also have a Actiontec DSL Gateway modem with the number GT701-WG witch has a firewall as does the OS.I know it may be allot to ask but can anybody help me configure the firewalls to work with LimeWire. I thank you fore any assistance.  |

 Actiontecs are often better off port forwarded. However they do have UPnP options. Try this first. Click the Advanced Setup link near the left side of the page & you will see UPnP option. Port Forwarding for the Actiontec GT701-WG If you go here PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall you will find it listed at far left column. The instructions are for windows, I hope that is still applicable or similar. The first thing you must do BEFORE port forwarding is set up a Static ip. Without a static ip or if it is done after the PF rules are set, the process won't work. What is your OS Firewall? Try to make LimeWire/Gnutella an exception for it and perhaps its default port of 6346 |

| oops... I have the newer firmware and the info only got me so far, but I found in applications under apps Gnutella witch I added but even though I did and edited the firewall in fedora LimeWire still wont connect to the Internet. Someone seed that this could be resolved by adding another exception fore LimeWire in the firewalls so that both LimeWire and Gnutella could operate but I haven't the foggiest idea pleas help.  |

| It depends on the firewall as to what it requires. For mac osx, we use LimeWire/Gnutella but some others might only use LimeWire or Gnutella. Ports may need to be specified in the firewall. You could also try the fedora forums. |

 Its not so clear Iv contacted the modems technical support and they checked things over all's fine they sued including the new ports and Linux SE firewall seems to be working in regards to the ports so I guess that the problem is ether in another part of the Linux SE firewall since is has 3 types of security in it The port section called firewall options witch as I can tell runs separate from the other firewall settings, the advanced options witch has a place to use a file with preloaded configurations from any application, and the tab labelled Linux SE of witch allows a level control fore enforcing the firewall. Or maybe It is something I missed when trying to setup the modem but I seem to have the same problem with running bittorrent and other types of shareware programs.  So what now?? |

| I don't know much if anything about Linux unfortunately. The Actiontech will have an internal firewall. Question is, is the UPnP communicating properly between LW & the device if you are using it in UPnP mode. It will probably be a good idea to make a note of all your option settings, then delete your LW prefs folder whilst LW is closed, found here I think: ~/.limewire Else nowadays it might just be called limewire. |

 I know that the setting UPnP must be running since the revised firmware allows it automatically but I cant confirm this other then what Iv was told and the actiontec support team sued that although they don't Handel much software everything works like its supposed to so, However as to the LW prefs if you meant jest a folder containing settings and preferred directory that's not so easy as fedora keeps extended files in several locations and if its jest named limewire then I an not so sure witch extension to look fore. but what is that going to do? Also I wonder if the same measure could be dun to bittorrent and other types of sharewares?  The only thing to fear is knowing to much, o ya and fear.
