I am not very computer literate therefore I like to be ablle to undo what I tried ,if necessay.
Your suggestion to change listening port to 65000.- Didn't work so I changed it back.
I went to port forwarding and would like to try this - but if it doesn't work - How do I undo it?
It seems a lot of people are having connection problems. Why is this?

You should be able to remove any port forwarding rules that you've created, by logging back into your router's setup pages. Mine has the option to add a new rule or remove an existing one

If you don't want to use the static IP address that you've set up, just go back to the TCP/IP properties page (see the static IP setup instructions) & check the radio button to obtain an IP address automatically.

Birdy I have read most of your post on this matter and have tried the deleting thing many times but when i tried to put in the gnutella file my limewire folder dont have a gnutella file... please help...ty in advance

9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Cable One Internet Explorer
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? When i go there it says cant display webpage.

It's not a good sign when the port test doesn't work, it can mean that an ISP is blocking certain ports. I can't find any info to say that Cable One block p2p but apparently they do shape p2p bandwidth.
Try changing ports. In LW tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Change LW's listening port to something in the range of 49152 - 65535 (eg 65000) > apply > ok. You can try any ports in this range.

A few people have said that there was no gnutella.net file within their preferences folder. If there's not one there, just copy & paste the file that you downloaded into the LimeWire folder anyway. Remember, LW has to be properly closed at the time.

You could also try port forwarding for your router. The instructions are here.

Don't forget to set up a static IP address first. LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within the router setup should all be the same number

You could also check with the building's manager to see whether there's any firewall associated with the apartment complex's internet setup.
