lanita - when you uninstalled limewire did you also delete the limewire
folder from the programs before you downloaded the new limewire version.

Did you do it like this :-

[1] Uninstall the old version before installing the new

v Uninstall Limewire by using LW uninstall program not the add/remove control panel

Start -> All Programs -> Limewire -> Uninstall

[2] Delete the old LW folders from the Programs directory before installing the new
version

v c:\Program Files\Limewire <--- (delete this folder)

[3] Download/Install new version of LW

[4] If you are using JRE-6 (java script) and still have problems download
the older version – JRE-5 from here:- (uninstall JRE-6 first)

If you did it like this then the only other problem I could see and have
experienced was the deleting of the gnutella.net file --
downloading a new gnutella.net.net file and rename it to gnutella.net --
as mentioned in earlier threads --

no i didn't....i deleted it from the add/remove programs....doing it now.....

Lanita December 6th, 2007 01:41 PM

I just deleted it the way you said.....I opened up the LimeWire and the gnutella file wasn't in there.....so i put it back in there....and yes i went into the program files as well as the registery to make sure all LimeWire folders were gone.....i got rid of the new java and put in the one you suggested.....should i try dl'ing the beta version instead of the 4.14.12 version?

skyliner December 6th, 2007 05:34 PM

no just use the version 4.14.12 -- also please check that when
you put the gnutella.net file into the limewire folder it was named
gnutella.net and not (R) not gnutella.net.net -- if it is please rename it
to gnutella.net -- (put cursor onto gnutella.net.net and right click - scroll
down to rename)

hopefully this will work -- if this doesn't work --
uninstall java jre-5 for the latest and restart limewire.

Lanita December 6th, 2007 05:45 PM

it didn't work with the older version of java.....i did rename it....i did all you said...i reinstall the newer version of java.....still nothing....my husband wanted me to tell you that we bought LimeWire Pro back in Jan...he even tried to install that one but it wouldn't connect as well.....

Hi lanita sorry for the delay in answering but I had to go to work-- well lets take a step back and have look at what you have done.[1] you say that your firewall/antivirus/router all check out ok.[2] you have connected ok in the past but not since redoing your system up[3] you have read all the sticky threads and followed them correctly. [4] I have given you all the fixes I know for limewire so something is not right. I'm beginning to think that it's not a limewire problem but a firewall/antivirus settings problem - please read this and check your norton settings -- go to the sticky thread (top of page 1) : Connection Problems LOOK here before Posting select:- Finally solved my connection problem Configuring Norton Internet Security Let us know how you get on

Hi Lanita -- I think that this could be the fix -- I saw it on a new posting so go to this url:-http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connection-problems/78613-worked-my-windows-xp-connection-trouble.htmlit's a fix by limewako/aplane33 This worked for my Windows XP connection trouble I deleted the preferences LW folder in drive C and then I did the following:Steps:1) Launch Limewire. See the new dialog box? DISABLE the show-tips-at-launch checkbox. Then click and hope you never see that box again.2) Go to LimeWire Preferences and disable the auto-connect at launch option.3) Quit Limewire. Then relaunch Limewire. Then manually connect from the menu. Voila!I surmise that the new Tips box is interfering with the application's ability to connect! Now it is running perfect Turbo and all, I hope that this does it for you - let us know

o.k....my nortons doesn't look like that...i have nortons system works 2003....i know it's old but we've haven't had any problems with it....my virus definitions are up to date......i always turn off the "tips"....i always configure LimeWire not to start automatically.....i thought it might be something in my other hard drive(200 gig)....i unplugged it when i redid my 80 gig hard drive...install limewire.....nothing so..i plugged back in my 200 hd....i don't know what it could be.....i've done everything under the sun and still nothing....
