Disable XP firewall. Make sure UPnP is enabled on your modem/router. For Norton see Configuring Norton Internet Security.

From the information you have provided that's the best I can help at this stage. System details - help us to help you (click on blue link)

digdeep December 1st, 2007 06:27 AM

Try This!

download this and copy it to c Documents and settings-User name-application data-Limewire!
Delete the original file gnutella.net

copy paste this link to search bar (MAYBE IT DOES NOT WORK)

It worked for me! WAIT 30 SEC!

You must enable the show hidden files and folders in tools-folder options-view-show hidden files and folders!!!!

i have teh same issue as everyone else. Limewire come on, and when I do a search it just keeps looking but doesn't connect. I have limewire listed as an exception on my firewall, so it should connect. I don't get it!! I did have a virus and had to completely wipe out my harddrive, but since getting my computer back and downloading all my songs again, I still can't get it to download. It does say connected on my limewire tool bar, I dont know what else to do. What is this gnuella.net.net file do? I dont have that listed im my Limewire folder, and my folder, doc&set/user name/limewire.. I dont have any files in there at all, so where would I load it?
thanks any helo for a very frustrated user :(

digdeep December 1st, 2007 12:03 PM

qbyogirl December 1st, 2007 07:40 PM

nothing works

i've tired every option, and nothing works, there's got to be something that does, como on limewire!!! we're to much people with similar problems, can't you find a real solution?

rjarchitect December 2nd, 2007 06:55 AM

So the aggravation ontinues :(
Thank you Digdeep for the update on the download location, but that didnt work either.
I agree with qbyogirl...... let's go Limewire... find a solution... really frustrating!!!
we're all hanging on waiting for some help:!

digdeep December 3rd, 2007 01:43 AM

try to

try to rename downloaded gnutella.net.net to gnutella.net

and than copy it there!remember to delete original gnutella.net file!
the limewire must be off !
than start it and wait a sec or two so it can connect!

if that doesnot work try to delete gnutella.net and than start limewire!

make shore that your firewall allows limewire to connect!

maybe you have more than one firewall!
I dont know but it worked for me! and now I have turbo connection!

or you try to download different vesion!

skyliner December 3rd, 2007 08:43 PM

digdeep - your fix enabled me to reconnect to LW once again -- (see my signature for my system/LW version) for the past 4 months I've had no problems and I noticed yesterday that I couldn't connect to LW -- so I deleted my gnutella.net file from my Limewire folder -- downloaded a new copy of gnutella.net.net from your link and pasted it to the LW folder -- restarted my LW 4.14.5 Pro but still no connection -- so I did what you said and renamed the gnutella.net.net to gnutella.net -- restarted my LW and up it came straightaway with an excellent connection -- I Hope this helps others out there who are having connection problems Once again thanx

hagonzo December 4th, 2007 12:05 PM

Yes! It finally works!! I've been using the old Frostwire version for about a year just fine and just recently downloaded the new version of Limewire. It was working slow and kinda weird, then suddenly I got that same darn message "Limewire is currently connecting to the network. Your search may not return many results until you are fully connected to the network." I did EVERYTHING there had to do with the firewall.... until I did the gnutella.net recommended by digdeep and followed skyliner's way above... which worked! I also removed the old Frostwire version at that time, then restarted my computer. When I restarted, it kicked in. Thanks so much!

digdeep December 4th, 2007 01:00 PM

you did not have to restart cpu just limewire:super:

Lanita December 4th, 2007 01:32 PM

I redid my system AGAIN today.....the only thing I didn't put in was Zone Alarm.....Still NOTHING!!!!!!! I'm going through LimeWire withdrawals here....I've e-mailed support.....Don't they answer their e-mails.....HELP!!!!

pink_princess_983 December 4th, 2007 02:00 PM

im confused as 2 how to delete my current gnutella.net file.....where is it?? i dont know where a limewire folder is....

digdeep December 4th, 2007 04:11 PM

re

file is in c Document and settings-user name*-application data-Limewire(here)

you must enable show hidden files and folders in tools-folder options-view-check show hidden files and folders, only then you can go(see)
Application Data folder! In there is Limewire folder!

pink_princess_983 December 4th, 2007 04:27 PM

have done it!!! YAY!! its easier than it sounds 2!!

RDB December 4th, 2007 05:50 PM

this is absolute BULL, i payed for this software and it should work without all these issues! I had a free version of LIMEWIRE a months ago and all i had to do was type the subject in and it listed almost instantly thousands of things on that particular subject, MPEGS,MP3s,Files, etc., etc., i figured if i paid for the beefed up version it would actually worK! This is robbery!

lalotj December 4th, 2007 07:49 PM

it works ..thnks digdeep

i tried several times , and did not work, until i renamed gnuttela .net.net to gnutella.net and erased previuos , and now works turbo!!\

remeber to close limewire before in order to work, :yahoo:

RDB December 5th, 2007 06:27 AM

where do i make this change at?

skyliner December 5th, 2007 07:56 AM

RDP - I don't know what OS you are using but this works on windows XP home edition SP2

[1] Open windows explorer
select Tools à Folder Options à View à Show hidden files and folders.

[2] In windows explorer look for the Limewire Folder – go here:-
c:\documents and settings\username\applications data\limewire

[3] Ensure that limewire is off -
now open the .limewire folder and look for and delete the gnutella.net file –

http://www.imagef1.net.nz/files/LW_g...1196869679.jpg
now download a new version from (here)
it will be named gnutella.net.net and save it to your desktop

[4] Now drag the new gnutella.net.net file from your desktop into the limewire folder.

[5] Close the LW Folder and start up Limewire – if it still doesn’t connect
go back into the limewire folder and rename the new downloaded
gnutella.net.net file to gnutella.net. (ensure that LW is off before you do this)

[6] Close the LW Folder and start up LW again – hopefully your problem is fixed

Please let us know how you get on

RDB December 5th, 2007 04:02 PM

Lanita December 5th, 2007 06:03 PM

Can't conect

My husband just informed me he did everything with the router as well...So I guess we've done everything suggested here....Now what???

Lanita December 5th, 2007 06:12 PM

I did go through all those steps as well....Seems I've done everything that's been suggested here....

I'm really going through LimeWire withdrawals here......I don't know what else to do.......

I've got 1 gig of memory...a 80 and a 200 gig hard drive....XP PRO...Nortons antivirus and ZoneAlarm....I've got XP firewall turned off....When I redo my system I zero it out to factory settings and start from scratch.....

I redo my system about every 6 months, so it's not like I don't know what I'm doing...LimeWire has always started before.....I know it's LimeWire, because I redid it once...put in LimeWire and nothing else....no updates no programs....Even turned off the firewall...and still nothing...HELP:confused:

Remoc December 5th, 2007 06:23 PM

Connection problems with Vista

I am just about ready to cry. I heard this was a cool program and was going to try and find a CD that has been out of print.

I have:
Windows Vista
Trend Microantivirus 2007
Spysweeper
Windows Firewall
Windows Defender

I am on a DSL connection through windstream.net and I do not live in an apt. complex.

I have tried everything listed and have been doing so for about 4 1/2 hours. If I don't find a solution soon, I will just give up.

skyliner December 5th, 2007 08:12 PM

lanita

what version of limewire are you using and also what version of
java script are you using -- fo find this out open limewire click on
help --> click on about limewire

a little box will open and it will give you the answer to both my
questions.

msclvr December 5th, 2007 08:19 PM

I am using Limewire 4.14.12 (just downloaded around 3:00 pm today) never worked, never used this program before.

Java 1.3.0_03

I tried the previous Java version and it didn't help. It updated itself afterwards.

I have done the tests and it says false and it still shows a blocked firewall. I have looked at all settings and it is ok.

Lanita December 5th, 2007 08:33 PM

What I have:

LimeWire: 4.14.10 Java: 1.6.0_03......

I've been doing scans suggested here:WARNING: Viruses on network you should be aware of! So far nothing has shown up...I've done the first 3 programs and Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool......I'm trying them all...or is it a waste of time??

Lanita December 5th, 2007 08:42 PM

oops

oh i forgot to say there has been nothing coming up with these scans.....

Lanita December 5th, 2007 08:43 PM

Did I mention that my husband can conect with no problem on his computer

skyliner December 6th, 2007 09:46 AM

lanita -- I see you have tried most things what about this --

uninstall JRE-6 (java script) and download the older version – JRE-5 from here:- (I had this problem 3 mths ago and it worked ).

Lanita December 6th, 2007 11:31 AM

I did what you said....uninstalled the new version of java and unistall LimeWire and I put in the old one...And reinstalled LimeWire~sighs~......I even went into the regedit to make sure everything was gone....no luck

skyliner December 6th, 2007 01:12 PM

lanita - when you uninstalled limewire did you also delete the limewire
folder from the programs before you downloaded the new limewire version.

Did you do it like this :-

[1] Uninstall the old version before installing the new

v Uninstall Limewire by using LW uninstall program not the add/remove control panel

Start -> All Programs -> Limewire -> Uninstall

[2] Delete the old LW folders from the Programs directory before installing the new
version

v c:\Program Files\Limewire <--- (delete this folder)

[3] Download/Install new version of LW

[4] If you are using JRE-6 (java script) and still have problems download
the older version – JRE-5 from here:- (uninstall JRE-6 first)

If you did it like this then the only other problem I could see and have
experienced was the deleting of the gnutella.net file --
downloading a new gnutella.net.net file and rename it to gnutella.net --
as mentioned in earlier threads --

Lanita December 6th, 2007 01:28 PM

no i didn't....i deleted it from the add/remove programs....doing it now.....

Lanita December 6th, 2007 01:41 PM

I just deleted it the way you said.....I opened up the LimeWire and the gnutella file wasn't in there.....so i put it back in there....and yes i went into the program files as well as the registery to make sure all LimeWire folders were gone.....i got rid of the new java and put in the one you suggested.....should i try dl'ing the beta version instead of the 4.14.12 version?

skyliner December 6th, 2007 05:34 PM

no just use the version 4.14.12 -- also please check that when
you put the gnutella.net file into the limewire folder it was named
gnutella.net and not (R) not gnutella.net.net -- if it is please rename it
to gnutella.net -- (put cursor onto gnutella.net.net and right click - scroll
down to rename)

hopefully this will work -- if this doesn't work --
uninstall java jre-5 for the latest and restart limewire.

Lanita December 6th, 2007 05:45 PM

it didn't work with the older version of java.....i did rename it....i did all you said...i reinstall the newer version of java.....still nothing....my husband wanted me to tell you that we bought LimeWire Pro back in Jan...he even tried to install that one but it wouldn't connect as well.....

Lanita December 7th, 2007 06:38 AM

anymore suggestions?

Lanita December 7th, 2007 07:13 AM

i'm going to redo my computer...zero it out.....will take most of the day.....i'll check back here before i put in LimeWire

skyliner December 7th, 2007 08:32 AM

Hi lanita sorry for the delay in answering but I had to go to work-- well lets take a step back and have look at what you have done.[1] you say that your firewall/antivirus/router all check out ok.[2] you have connected ok in the past but not since redoing your system up[3] you have read all the sticky threads and followed them correctly. [4] I have given you all the fixes I know for limewire so something is not right. I'm beginning to think that it's not a limewire problem but a firewall/antivirus settings problem - please read this and check your norton settings -- go to the sticky thread (top of page 1) : Connection Problems LOOK here before Posting select:- Finally solved my connection problem Configuring Norton Internet Security Let us know how you get on

skyliner December 7th, 2007 01:52 PM

Hi Lanita -- I think that this could be the fix -- I saw it on a new posting so go to this url:-http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connection-problems/78613-worked-my-windows-xp-connection-trouble.htmlit's a fix by limewako/aplane33 This worked for my Windows XP connection trouble I deleted the preferences LW folder in drive C and then I did the following:Steps:1) Launch Limewire. See the new dialog box? DISABLE the show-tips-at-launch checkbox. Then click and hope you never see that box again.2) Go to LimeWire Preferences and disable the auto-connect at launch option.3) Quit Limewire. Then relaunch Limewire. Then manually connect from the menu. Voila!I surmise that the new Tips box is interfering with the application's ability to connect! Now it is running perfect Turbo and all, I hope that this does it for you - let us know

Lanita December 7th, 2007 05:59 PM

o.k....my nortons doesn't look like that...i have nortons system works 2003....i know it's old but we've haven't had any problems with it....my virus definitions are up to date......i always turn off the "tips"....i always configure LimeWire not to start automatically.....i thought it might be something in my other hard drive(200 gig)....i unplugged it when i redid my 80 gig hard drive...install limewire.....nothing so..i plugged back in my 200 hd....i don't know what it could be.....i've done everything under the sun and still nothing....
