I'm trying to connect via a university network that is blocking the standard Limewire ports. So, I've looked around and from what I read, I need to use SocksCap and Socks2Http. Downloaded them and tried to set them up with the information I could piece together, but as of yet I have had no luck. Unless you count the 2 seconds it connected to a host, but then immedeately disconnected. I believe I have the SocksCap configuration figured out. I set the Socks server address as my IP and set the port as 1080, correct? How do I know to chose between Socks4 and Socks5? Then with Socks2Http, I'm not using a proxy to connect to http, so I don't need to worry about that. Do I need to set up Gateway? And if so, what information am I going to need? Then I set the Socks port as 1080 to match what I set it as in SocksCap, correct? Is there any settings I will need to change in my Network settings? I saw something about enabling DNS, but I did so and it did not get Limewire to work. If I do need to enable it, how do I configue the DNS settings? When all of that is done, what port do I need to set Limewire's preferences to listen on for hosts? Thank you for any help

Since most of the posts in the Limewire section go unanswered, it didn't seem to make much sense to post there. This is a general question that can be applied to any gnutella program, so if someone could post a little more detailed information on how to use socks2http and sockscap to effectively socksify a gnutella app, it would be much appreciated.

I'm using sockscap - it was OK with V1.6d on port 1080 (Sockscap setting) with "Socks 5" selected. However I've upgraded to 1.8 and now I get the error window "Can't find the main class. Program will exit" from the Java Virtual Machine Launcher when I select Limewire in Sockscap. Any ideas - I'm Win 2000

I guess it was a minor victory, as I still can't connect to any hosts on 6346 or 6347 ports, which have the most activity. Lets put it this way: Before I could connect to 30 hosts and have anywhere from 100-200TB available. Now, with 40 hosts I'm sparadicaly going back and forth between 25 and 50 TB

For those of you STILL having connection problems with LimeWire. 1. Make sure you install Socks2HTTP and use DEFAULT settings unless a. You are behind a proxy b. Purchased a different Gateway from Socks2HTTP 2. Install SocksCap and drag the limewire icon into the window. Then launch Limewire through SocksCap One stupid thing I got hungup on is... The "Connecting to Gnutella Network" was always displayed and the connection bars were ALWAYS red. This is okay --- it is because Limewire still assumes you are connecting through the default port. So be sure and conduct a search before you assume it is not working. -danimal
