Default This worked for my Windows XP connection trouble

I deleted the "preferences LW" folder in drive C and then I did the following:

Steps:

1) Launch Limewire. See the new "Tips" dialog box? DISABLE the show-tips-at-launch checkbox. Then click "ok" and hope you never see that box again.

2) Go to LimeWire Preferences and disable the auto-connect at launch option.

3) Quit Limewire. Then relaunch Limewire. Then manually "connect" from the menu. Voila!

I surmise that the new Tips box is interfering with the application's ability to connect!

Now it is running perfect Turbo and all, thank you so much Limewacko!!!!!!!!!

You got game! Itried every thing I could find, renameing gnutella.net, deleting folder .limewire, manually port forwarding, kill firewall, kill antivirus, deselect ultrapeers, and all the rest. The damn tip of the day was the culprit. I write software, and I can tell you there is no discernable reason this should have anythiing to do with a connection problem. I too bought the PRO hoping to connect after diminished performance with the free version. I am discouraged to see several instances on here where tech support doesnt answer emails. I am also discouraged to see the same problem I had, not solved very often, or a dead thread. For the record, I tried all I listed above with no luck and the tip of the day turnoff was the trick. For others, my config is:
HP laptop running XP pro sp2
Verizon broadband access card
Windows firewall
AVG antivirus

Thanks. By the way I too got a turbo connection when it started working.

In your C drive, in files and folders, under your user name, and LW preference.

the preferences for the auto connect are found on the LW under Tools, then Advanced and then System start up, unmark "run on system startup" then restart LW and unmark the "tips of the day" box on initial start.

keep in mind that you might have to delete BOTH LW Preferenes: one on your C drive and the other on actual LW under TOOLS.

Cool Being Specific

Hi everyone. this is your chance to shine......

Please be more specific.... when you say Delete from C: LW Preferences..... I have searched everywhere looking for a folder with that name Search: *LW Preferences* and found nothing.... I am so eager to find the folder and delete it..... that if you just show me the path you had to reach said folder it be great...
I am on a PC running XP Home
Plenty of RAM ROM and RUN RUN RUN....

thanks
Nocilla

Go to START menu/ MY Computer/ Documents and Settings/ Click on user name (example: John Doe). You will see the LW folder / delete it.

Then Start up LW.

A "tip of the day" pop up box will appear.

Disable/unmark the box in the corner.

Then head up to TOOLS / Advanced/ System Start up/ disable or unmark the box in the corner.

Then restart LW. This should work for XP. If not, This is all the info I can give you that worked for me. This pop-up box is preventing the system from connecting, so it needs to be disabled. Good luck!
