Are you on a router or a wired connection? If you are using a router, I don't think that you can download files through limewire.... I'm not overly sure on this I'm afraid. But I know that when I use a wired connection, mine works. When I use a router, I cannot find anything, let alone download it.

I'm all wired up, got windows XP and plenty of memory, just don't understand why it wont connect to the 'net.

Have you tried checking firewall to see if it's blocking anything? When you first brought up limewire, did you select no when it asked if you would like to download? If you did, this will be stopping you.

Failing this, I would suggest uninstalling and reinstalling it.

I have turned my firewall off and on.

I have installed and re-installed this thing 3-4 times now.

Im at a loss as to why it won't connect to the web.

Please try the fixes in the thread below & if none of that helps, post back with your system details (within that thread is a link which tells you the details that we need).
If LW Will Not Connect

I've been down that road to.

"Go to Start > click on My Computer > double click on Documents and Settings > double click on the folder with your username > double click on Application Data. Now look for a folder named LimeWire. This folder named LimeWire is your preferences folder. You need to open the LimeWire folder by double clicking on it."

I get to the point of opening the Application Data and it isn't there. I don't have that.

So I'm stuck again.

1. OS version?.......Windows XP

2. What firewalls you have?..........just the ones that came with XP

3. How much ram?...........255mb

4. Hard Disk space available?........40+ gig

5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)......DSL

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?.......???

7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)?...........home

8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have?.........the most recent, Java was just upgraded

9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)?.......Windstream

10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?...............
"The connection has timed out
The server at www3.limewire.com is taking too long to respond."

11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up..........no

12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user..........1st try

13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? _ click here to see Sample image .............yes, even with my firewall turned off.

14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled?............NA

15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall :)..................AVG free version, but i shut it off to run Limewire

16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland)............USA

I have tried everything I can think of to get this damned thing to work but nothing helps.

Whats up? :(

Make sure that the XP firewall's configured to allow LW.
User Cant Connect - LimeWire

Check that you don't have a Windstream firewall as well.
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html

In LW go tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Change LW's listening port to something in the range of 49152 - 65535 (eg 65000) > apply > ok.

Do you have only one version of Java installed on your computer? Go to Add/Remove programs & remove any other Java versions, except for the latest Java (1.6.0_03).

Do you connect through a modem/router? Check for a brand & model number (if you connect wirelessly, the router might be in another room).

Do you mean that you don't have an Application Data folder, or that you don't have a LimeWire folder? Did you make sure to show hidden files & folders, before you went looking for the App Data/LimeWire folders?
