Angry Please Help, Cant Connect!!!

1. OS version? Windows XP
2. What firewalls you have? Norton Personal Firewall, PopSubtract, Spysubtract, Spamsubtract, Symantec
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available? 33.1 GB
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? ???
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? school, I was in the dorms but now am in on campus apartments which is pretty much the same. Everyone shares same dsl line
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 4.14.12 and 1.6.0_01
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Internet Explorer
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It says Internet Explorer cannot open the Webpage
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. I think so, I am at a university and I believe we all use the same internet connection
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. When I was in the dorms it worked great for a few months even when it appeared that Limewire detected a firewall, all bars were green. All of a sudden it stopped connecting at all. Since I've moved to the on campus apartments it' never worked.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? _ click here to see Sample image Yes
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? Not sure but I have to use a blue router cable to connect to the internet
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall Norton but it's turned off
16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). USA

Norton is turned off, but XP has it's own firewall. Also, do not run two firewalls at same time. It results in less security not more, also will have side-effects. Norton & XP firewalls will clash. For XP firewall, see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...wers-here.html

Oops .. you do realise don't you many schools & dorms now block p2p sharing programs? That might be your problem. I can see port 6346 is totally blocked, most likely due to the network firewall. Try changing all port settings in LW & firewall to one between 49152 - 65535; a good one to try is 64049. ie: Go to LW's menu bar, Tools > Options > Advanced > Firewalls & change both connection & listening ports to one of those suggested. Then, go to menu bar, File menu, disconnect & then connect, give it plenty of time to attempt to connect.
