Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

Talking FINALLY CONNECTED! This is how I did it...

Hey everyone! So I have downloaded LimeWire earlier today and I've had major connection problems. First it was trying to connect which it never did, then that little brick wall appeared where my firewall is. I tried everything to try and fix this. I decided to check out this forum and I applied most of the techniques suggested but failed. I've FINALLY figured out what the problem was, and now I am fully connected enjoying everything LW has to offer.

Here's what I did...it only took a couple minutes. I know it looks confusing but believe me, it's simple as pie. Just do it.

You may also print this out if you have to.

1.) First, go into LW and click on 'tools' located on the top toolbar. Select 'options'. On the left, you'll see the option called 'sharing', hit that and click the checkbox for "folder is fully shared including all subfolders."

Hit apply at the very bottom ALWAYS.

2.) Next, go to the 'speed' tab and select your speed: brodband or dial up. Hit apply at the very bottom.

3.) Go to the 'uploads' tab and make sure it's set at the middle (that long line that's towards the middle.) Hit apply at the bottom.

4.) Go to 'connections' and check-mark the "connect on start-up" box. Hit apply.

5.) Hit the 'BitTorrent' tab and check-mark the "start automatically" box. Hit apply.

6.) Hit the 'player' tab and make sure the "use limewire media player" box is checked. Hit apply.

7.) Go to 'status bar' and check-mark every box except the last one. Hit apply.

8.) Hit the 'iTunes' tab and type in a shared name, such as " your name's limewire tunes." The buffer size should be at 2048. Hit apply.

9.) Go to 'view' and check-mark the box for "show notifications". Hit apply.

10.) Then go to 'autocompletion' and hit the check-box. Hit apply.

11.) Hit the 'searching' tab and then the 'Quality' tab below it and check-mark the "show all qualities". Hit apply.

12.) Go to 'speed' and check-mark "show all speeds". Hit apply.

13.) Go to 'filters' and hit 'keywords' and check-mark the "Ignore .vbs files" and "Ignore .wmv/.asf files." Hit apply.

14.) Go to 'advanced preferencing' and have the scale on 'always' - have the box above checked at "1". Hit apply.

15.) Hit the 'firewall config' tab and check-mark the "use UPnp" which is recommended. Hit apply.

16.) Go to 'proxy' and select "no proxy". Hit apply.

17.) Hit 'file associations' and check-mark both ".torrent files" and "magnet:links" below that, check-mark the middle button. Hit apply AND Ok.

And that's all I did!

TIP: Keep all of the recommended options check-marked and ALWAYS make sure you click the apply button and when you're done click OK.

Now, I didn't have to restart my computer, it just connected automatically. Look at the bottom toolbar of LW and your connection chart should be dark green, put your mouse over it and it should say "your connection to the network is very strong". The brick on front of the firewall icon should be gone.

If for some reason you're not connected, restart your computer. If you have a norton firewall that is not letting LW in, then do this too:

Go into your Norton Security Center. Hit the tab 'Norton Internet Security' at the very top and hit the 'settings' tab. Then hit 'Norton internet security options'. Hit the "Personal firwall" tab on the left and then hit 'program control'. Go down the list and find Limewire, make sure it's set at "Allow". Mine was set at Custom before and it blocked me. Make sure you do this! Then always hit 'Apply' and 'OK'.

You're set!

If you've tried everything, this has got to work for you. I think most people forget to go into tools and set their options correctly.

Let me know how it works out, good luck and Happy Limewiring.

Smile well done Mack 56!

I have used LW for some time but had to re-install after problems with AOL (who hasn't). Although searches were performed no results were found. Went through your procedure even though every setting was the same and lo and behold everything worked. Magic! Thank you.

er... There are some major problems with the above recommendations.

MANY of the configurations suggested have absolutely no bearing whatsoever regarding 'connection problems' and many of them are actually quite negative things to do in terms of use of the Gnutella Network, sound quality on playback, enforced 'partial' file sharing, etc., etc.

Your list could be shortened... A lot !

Please do not think I am being heavy-negative towards you now...
Your efforts and post is for sure appreciated... Your 'method' simply needs a bit more 'science' applied in order to separate those configurations that actually effect connection parameters from those that are only related to 'personal' preferences.

Again... Glad that your enjoying what can be done on Gnutella Network and please continue to share your views and discoveries !!!

You're welcome, Leolyd..I'm so glad everything worked for you!

Ursula - I realize that a lot of those procedures do not seem to appear to be related to the connection, but I thought that if I left something out and my method helped no one then what good would that have done. I've spent all day on this, reading all through your forum and trying all of the different methods that were suggested to no avail. Until finally I took a look in the options which a lot of us do not do, and found the problem. Just thought I was helping. Sorry.

Please ! There is no reason at all for you to say, "Sorry."

I tried to word my comments so that they would not be taken as heavy criticism... A bit hard to do, I guess...

Anyway, please don't stop as your thoughts and posts are important to all of us here... Everybody's are !!!

C U later and keep posting !

Thumbs up

Ursula - Thank you

Danielle0000 - That is great news! I am glad it worked for you. You're very welcome!!

I just wanted to add one more tip for Norton users, if you're still having trouble with the firewall.

Go into your Norton program. Hit the 'Norton Internet Security' tab, then click on 'Norton Internet Security Options' and go into 'Settings' and on the left bar hit 'Personal Firewall' and then hit 'Advanced Settings' and you'll see 2 options. Uncheck the box where it says "Stealth Blocked Ports" and make sure "Turn on Stateful Protocol Filter" is check-marked. I found this to be also very important. Apply and save.

You may have to restart your computer.

Good luck everyone.

Default Norton ? I trust more in Horton !

Another thing to mention about Norton is simple...

If, as many people have been doing, you remove and re-install Limewire, Norton doesn't alter... Soooo, you build up a nice collection of 'rules' for the latest install AND retain the old ones as well.
Nice feature, uh ?

Had a friend who had 16 individual instances of 'rules' for only one application... Not all 'rule' sets being the same !

Norton doesn't delete or deny double instances.

Which means that it is a very good idea to have a look in the configs that mack56 mentions and have a good cleanup of all of the superfluous garbage that collects in the corners !

I certainly trust Horton more than Norton...
I mean - It was Horton who heard the Who !!!

Dr. Seuss rules
