Default used LW yesterday, cant connect today

alright, i admit it, i'm another one of those goobs who cant use a computer for anything other than internet and some games.

but yesterday i used LW for a few hours. today it wont connect. i tried rebooting (x2), and re-starting LW (x5). then i thought maybe my virus software had made a change with the daily update so i did a system restore. i use avg free.

then i thought maybe my account had expired, so i bought the latest lw version.

i spent some time trying the stickys you have in this forum- i couldnt try them all because they're a little complicated for me.

this is my system info- what i know of it anyway:

os: windows xp
firewall: avg free
ram: 1256gb
space avail:4gb
connection type: cable
router; linksys
connecting from; home
LW version: LW 4.16.6 pro, java 1.60_05
isp: comcast
my test worked
not sharing
have had lw for about 3 years
i DO have the brick wall, but it's always been there
i dont know how my modem is set up
antivirus; avg free
live in the usa

any ideas? i'm clueless. i swear it was working yesterday. the only thing that changed was that avg did it's daily update

Default am i invisible?

ok, i'm still trying to connect. did i mention that i was just using lw monday and had no problems?

i'd like to try this, which i found on one of the support pages:

If you have been able to connect in the past, the existing exceptions in your security program(s) may have stopped working. Remove all exceptions for LimeWire in all of your security programs, and then re-add them.

does anyone have experience with avg free virus software? if so, i would love to know where on my control center, i find the place to remove then re-add all 'exceptions' (whatever that means). anyone? please?

i know i'm a goober, but if i can just get connected i'll go away and leave you alone hehheh

hi, thank you for your reply. i did try some of the things in the first link, but to be honest, most of them are too complicated for me. i'll ask a friend to help me out with the others.

do you have any idea why it would just stop working one day like that?

my coworker said that the government did it, and i'm busted and going to be fined. i hope he was kidding

gael

editing to add: is that codec pack something that'll help limewire connect? or is it just for playback? i'm unclear on what it is
thanks, gael

The codec is for play back for the windows media player. It has nothing to do with the goverment. It depends on the users and there internet. And also the kinda windows you are useing.Your friend has no idea what he is talking about how old is he 18.
