![]() Remoc~ Slightly OT (but since original poster never responded I feel very little guilt in the threadjack), I installed AVG yesterday and have been unable to locate the spot where I tell it to allow Limewire direct connects. It is allowing random connects. It did allow DCs until I installed AVG 1. OS version? Windows XP 2. What firewalls you have? AVG v8.0 3. How much ram? sorry, I don't know how to locate that information 4. Hard Disk space available? plenty 5. Connection type? cable 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? linksys wrt54G 7. Where are you trying to connect from? home 8. What version of LimeWire & Java do you have? 4.18.2 and 1.6.0_05 respectively 9. Who is your ISP? qwest 10. Do this simple test for us. It worked 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? no 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. I'm not experienced but I've used it for a while 13. Do you see a brick wall ? yes, but random connect are working, just not DCs 14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? 15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? AVG 8.0 as of yesterday, which is when the problem started 16. What country are you living in? USA Do you have any suggestions? Please keep in mind that I'm a techno-slug, so simpler jargon is best for me. Thanks in advace for your time, and btw, I'm sweating in AZ too :| Last edited by vi_curious; July 5th, 2008 at 08:57 AM. |

![]() Hey VI... As Far as I can see AVG v8 doesn't have a Firewall. AVG Antivirus 8 Internet security and firewall reviews - CNET Reviews. You might try Port Forwarding your Linksys Router as they are renowned for problems. Port Forwarding for the Linksys WRT54G. Since AVG has no Firewall, you might check your Windows Firewall to make sure LW has Full Access. After further review, You might Reconsider Using AVG v8. ![]() Hmmm, then I wonder why my DC vanished when I installed the AVG? I'll do the port forward thing, thanks for the link. The explanation looks simple enough for even me! Now about that whole malware thing ... i don't know what it means!!! |

![]() Well, I got as far as 'call my ISP to get the Name Server ip address', but Qwest tells me they can't do that because they don't offer static ip addresses. I, being the technoslug that I am and not understanding what she was telling me, am unable to argue my position. But I guess it's not that big of a deal. My random connects work, and if I need to forward specific files I can always load to a flash drive... good thing most of my people are local ![]() Thanks again for your help, I appreciate your time. |
