I also use Avast... AND Prevx2.0, at the same time... But that is only because of the way Prevx2.0 works. (See below). There is nothing that you really need to do with Avast except ADD things you wish to block. Avast is very amenable with p2p apps.
Do NOT use the Windows firewall. Never. ESPECIALLY when using ANY other program that includes a software firewall. That may be part of your problem. With the exception of my comments above re: Avast and Prevx2.0 running concurrently, you should never ever ever run more than one anti-virus/internet security program. Never.

btw, I note that no one has asked you if you have recently updated or fresh installed Limewire.
If you have, than the problems are 99.99999999999999999999% the fault of Limewire. There are very big problems now with LW.
