I'm not really a "techie" either, but am now relieved to have gotten limewire going agian after much frustration. I was experiencing problems connecting for a long time and suspected my isp (Comcast). I attempted all the other suggestions from changing ports to proxies - no dice.

The heart of the problem was my wireless router which came pretuned with a firewall. It's a Belkin Wireless G -Just needed to go to the router's homepage (not the company's, the router's - yes it has one) and turn it off.

It was clear after examining the log file from the router this was the issue as there were 100's of lines of "IP SPOOFING" - I think this is the result of limewire connecting to peers.
