Firewall hell -what to do?

Hi, I just installed Limewire and it will not load. I looked up the FAQs and realize that there's a firewall blocking Limewire. I am using Windows Vista and I have 68% free capacity. I am using Earthlink DSL to connect to the internet. I checked Windows firewall and Limewire is listed in the exceptions. I don't know how to adjust the settings in Windows Defender. I am also using PC Tools Antivirus and Spyware Doctor and I even went so far as turning them off and it still won't connect, so I don't know what to do. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I am in the same boat as collegechica but I managed to access LimeWire the day I installed it but now it will open but all of my searchs turn up zilch. I did not notice if I was operating behind a firewall the first time but now am. I have tried editing my firewall settings but can't seem to get anywhere. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Tania

I am having the same problem. I am behind a firewall as well but I never used to have this problem. Started with the last upgrade. I have Windows XP, cable internet. Limewire is the exception to the firewall and yet it still puts me behind the firewall. I have tried disconnecting, waiting and then reconnecting. This worked the first day but now it will not work. I want to upgrade to Pro but not if I am going to be having these problems. Can someone from Limewire please help?

Firewall Hell...me Too!

I just was promted to update to version 4.18.3 of Limewire, so I did. As soon as I did, it keeps telling me I have a firewall, and I don't! I use Macafee, and I have it set to allow incoming and outgoing connections from Limewire. I even deleted and re-added the permission. Limewire insists there is a firewall. My Windows firewall is disabled!

I have Windows XP, my provider is Dslextreme. I have a Linksys wired router which has never prevented Limewire or any other sharing program from working. I even added the port # 36605 to Macafee allowing all incoming and outgoing information. My router is UpNc (or whatever its called) enabled. I can't figure out what is going on? Please help!

Thanks!

Same Firewall Program

I don't have a "Limwire Preferences" folder...can't find one anywhere. I uninstalled the new version and went back to 4.16, and now IT insists I have a firewall. The BS isn't worth the trouble.

Is there a reason why these changes are happening? Is there no way to get a fix directly from Limewire? This is ridiculous.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Are you sure your Linksys router is not at fault? If you installed a new LW it may be trying to listen thru a different port than previously.

Did everyone try these suggestions: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html :)

Or User Cant Connect - LimeWire

I don't see a 'full' systems details list from anyone in this list, yet you want us to "guess" what your problem might be. How much help you get on this forum is up to you really. ;)

Firewall issue

I went back to version 4.16 and it's working fine. It's not the router, it's the program. Look how many people are complaining about the exact same thing. If they make a change with a new release, then they should advise people of it, not make us guess on a forum.

I used the port that the new version instructed me too which was 36605.

Well, I was wrong..Version 4.16 was working, and now its decided that there is a firewall, though I have not changed a thing. Ever since downloading that new version, it's all screwed up. Yes, I have tried all the suggestions in the links. My version of LW doesn't have a "Performance" tab or menu, so I can't make the changes that are suggested.
