Can't connect with new version of lw
 

I had, and still have on the other computer, lw version 4.16.6 and it worked, still works on the other computer, flawless. I downloaded the newer version 4.18.2 and now I can't connect. Yesterday I finally kinda connected but all I could get were ethernet downloads which are VERY fast but there were not many of them. I have high speed dsl on both computers, in the same office. Both have windows xp. The older version connects as soon as you open lw. The new version I have on this computer never fully connnects and takes forever to get 3 bars but still then I cannot even find anything on my searches much less download anything. I have tried opening a port for lw on my firewall, windows firewall. My anti-virus is F-PROT and I can't do much with it. Can someone please help me.

I have tried all the steps in the other thread, lw not connecting, or something like that. It's the one with the opening a port, updating java, ect. Nothing Helped.

For new LW version you need to delete your previous LW preferences folder.

Make sure your new LW is not using the same listening or connection ports as your other LW"s on the other computers. Check by going to LW's menu bar, Tools > Options > Advanced > Firewalls. :)

Routers reserve one port per application for the network. Two computers or applications cannot use the same port to connect or listen through. ;)

Ok, I am now connected. I have done everything in my power to get back on limewire. I finally got a good connection, all bars green, and fast searches. I can click on a song to download, click on the yes portion of the lic agreement and then nothing. The song either says connecting(never connects),or says waiting in busy host, or need more sources. Every once in a while one song will download. Please help

I have a gateway laptop, windows xp, high speed dsl, windows firewall, F-PROT antivirus.

I'd also suggest those search result with files less than 1,000 KB, ban those users. Right click them in search results & choose ban host. ;)

I tried that but nothing would download. It is just "waiting for sources". Now what?

Who is your ISP? My check suggests it's a college, in which case they may be shaping p2p or gnutella network or LW bandwidth. Schools/colleges/universities pay a lot of money for their bandwidth & most nowadays try to restrict p2p bandwidth use because it uses up so much bandwidth.

Yes it is a college. I can use the computer next to me, with lw version 4.16.6, and it works fine. I updated to a newer version, 4.18.3, on my computer and now I get nothing.

I am aware there's been recent issues at Bitzi site. It seems their sample magnet downloads have been somehow affected. The magnets are not presently working at present. I am using a previous version of LW on my mac so I doubt the problem is LW related.

So ... I still believe the downloads you chose from your search results were more than likely fakes unfortunately. Keep trying. :)
