Default I need help... cannot connect

For the longest time, I had given up on LimeWire but I want to try again. I cannot connect for some reason. I just deleted K9 firewall and I don't think I have any other firewalls, but I am not sure about that. I don't know what else to do. Please help. Thanks!

System details - help us to help you (click on blue link). if you had have posted those details as the forum rules specify, then you & we would save a lot of time.

What is it with forum rules that nobody wants to read them, yet want help. New users are shown links to the forum rules 'at least 3' times before their first post. *sighs*

Default Sorry...here is the info...

1. OS version? windows xp. i am the administrator, i guess. i'm the only user.
2. What firewalls you have? i don't think i have any. but, not sure. i have mcafee but i don't think there is an active firewall.
3. How much ram? 480 MB
4. Hard Disk space available? unsure. don't know how to find it.
5. Connection type? cable.
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Router is Linksys and the Modem, I think, is Motorola. Not sure of the versions. Baby is in the room sleeping where the modem is.
7. Where are you trying to connect from? house
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? LimeWire: 4.18.3, Java: 1.6.0
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Comcast
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It says, " Your test worked!!"
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No. Neither.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. This has always been a problem.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? _ click here to see Sample image No.
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? I have no clue.what port forwarding or UPnP is. But, basically, the modem is connected to the wall by the cable wire. The modem is then connected to the router.
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall McAfee.
16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland) USA.

Thank you martinelicohen

Go to your control panel & disable XP firewall (it is turned on by default). Then make sure McAffee firewall has an allowed rule for LW (LimeWire.) User Cant Connect - LimeWire

Your Linksys "might" be the problem depending on the model. If you can possibly find out the model number that would be greatly advantageous. It is probably written on the side or top or bottom of the router.

The problem to me sounds like either your software firewall or router or both. Only one software firewall should be enabled. Two firewalls mean less security & side effects problems, not more security.

Routers have NAT which acts as a type of firewall as it restricts incoming messages on certain ranges of ports on the particular ip address it is set to.

Port 6346 is not blocked which means you should be able to connect, but something is preventing incoming messages; ie: software firewall(s) or router.

Linksys wrt54g is a "lemon" in the respect the firmware has bug problems that Linksys never bothered to fully fix. UPnP is simply totally unreliable & (unless you use a 3rd party fix for the firmware that is available) the other better & more reliable option is to Port Forward the device (better than UPnP at least) which will provide more reliability when used for p2p, games or any other heavy bandwidth use.

1. First & most important step is the first one, setting up a static ip: Static ip instructions for Mac OSX Click on blue link) ...... bonus Answer

Linksys.com - Support/Technical Support/Choose a Product/Routers and Access Points/Wireless Routers/WRT54G

2. Port Forwarding for the Linksys WRT54G

Try the fixes in the thread below Make sure that you've deleted the preferences folder properly...if you have, you'll go through LW's setup wizard all over again when you restart LW.
If LW Will Not Connect

If nothing there helps, try to find the brand & model of your modem/router...if nothing's showing on top of the device, have a look underneath.
