Default I am still having connection issue's

I have sent e-mails to LW concerning this issue with no response. I have a Toshiba Laptop that I have been running LW on for the past year and a half. I purchased Pro in Dec. of last year and didn't have any problems until recently. I am running Vista with Norton 360. I have gone through and deleted ALL LW files including the registry, re-installed it, changed the preferences, gone into all of the firewalls I can find, and done all of this numerous times and still no luck. I am also running off of a NetGear wireless router and my roomate has his LW working just fine with his computer. PLEASE HELP?!?!?!

Try the fixes in the thread below. Make sure you're not using the same port number as your roommate. If nothing there helps, post back with your system details.

Default Tried that.

Checked that already. So no we aren't running on the same port. Where do I find my system stats? I am computer retarded so I am going to need some one to walk me through it. I have also now uninstalled it once again trying to get this problem fixed. And by the way I tried everything on the other list at least twice.

Sorry - I didn't read your post properly!! Did you have any trouble with any of the fixes? Did you have any trouble finding the preferences folder? Once you deleted that, did you have to go through LW's setup wizard all over again?

Go to your gnutella.net file, hover your mouse over it...how big is the file?

If you post your system details, we have a chance of helping you more. The help thread has info about all the details that we need.

Default Uh oh

Like I said I am computer retarded. Do you have time to walk me through this? If so do you yahoo? I have re- installed LW pro and set everything to default so I can start from scratch if that is possible. I don;t know how to find the file you are talking about. Sorry. And thank you for the help.

It's all there in the help thread - I made it as simple as possible & if you're using XP then that's as basic as I could make it.

Just go & read it again...there's not too much you can do wrong. I don't even know what OS (XP, Vista, Mac, Linux) you use...that would be a good start.

Windows Defender doesn't have a firewall. But Vista does, & so does Norton 360. If you run 2 software firewalls together then you'll have problems with them conflicting with each other & possibly leaving you less protected. So you should turn off the Vista firewall: Windows Vista Help: Turn Windows Firewall on or off & then configure the Norton firewall to allow LW: Configuring the firewall feature in Norton 360

This link might also help with configuring Norton: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/226610-post6.html

Ok, to delete your preferences folder (which is named LimeWire), you'll need to look in this location: C:\Users\your username\AppData\Roaming\LimeWire

And before you can find that folder, you'll need to make sure that you're able to see hidden files & folders (the preferences folder is hidden by default). Grandpa shows you how to to show hidden files & folders, and how to find the preferences folder here LimeWire Pref Folder in Vista

Once you find that folder named LimeWire, you'll need to make sure that the program LimeWire isn't running. LW needs to be completely closed, otherwise deleting the prefs folder won't help at all. So, shut down LW & then go to task manager (Control+shift+escape) & if there's a LW process running - click the option to end the process.

Then delete the whole folder named LimeWire. Restart your computer & then restart LW.

If deleting the preferences folder doesn't help, you can try replacing the gnutella.net file - it's just a file with addresses of hosts to connect to. It's inside the preferences folder. The help thread has links for downloading a new file...you just need to download the file, save it, delete the old gnutella.net out of your preferences folder & then paste the one you downloaded into the preferences folder. So you just replace the old one with the new one. But you need to have LW completely closed before you do that, or it won't work. Once you've replaced that file, restart LW & see how you go.

Otherwise, you need to tell us the model of the Netgear. If no model number's showing, turn the router upside down & have a look underneath.
