Question Connects terribly, occasionally...

Hello,

I have just re-installed LimeWire last week, having not used it for many months. I installed version 4.16 a couple of weeks ago and had a huge battle trying to make it work. It eventually did, after a combination of port-forwarding, and re-installing (as well as working through the advice in the "If LW Will Not Connect"
section.

I then left it for a fortnight, came back and found that it again, refused to connect. I downloaded the latest version, 4.18, and have tried everything I can think of (and did last time) to get it up and running again but with limited success.

I have set both ports in LimeWire the same, forwarded ports through my router, given it passage through my firewall, un-installed then re-installed, and replaced the gnutella.net file as per your advice.

The connection bars crawl up and down, even reaching 5 at some points. Limewire sometimes detects a firewall and sometimes does not (the little logo with the brick wall).

  • I am using Windows XP SP2.
  • I am using Comodo firewall.
  • I have 1GB of RAM.
  • I have 115GB free space.
  • I use 2MB (thereabouts) broadband.
  • I use a Netgear DG834G router to connect wirelessly.
  • I am connecting from home.
  • I am using LimeWire version 4.18.8 and Java version 1.6.0_07.
  • My ISP is AOL.
  • The page said 'Your test worked!!'.
  • I am sharing the network with 2 other computers, however my computer has a unique static IP which does not clash with the others.
  • Used LimeWire several months ago, had it running fine. used LimeWire a fortnight ago, eventually had it running fine.
  • The logo starts with a brick wall, which eventually dissappears.
  • I am using port-forwarding, and have done this successfully in the past.
  • I use Comodo firewall and AVG antivirus software.
  • I live in Scotland, UK.
  • As far as I remember, between using LimeWire a fortnight ago, Java was updated; and then Limewire again.

After searching for a file, LimeWire eventually (and sometimes), populates the list, but will not download any file inspite of saying 'downloading from # hosts'. Also, when I say 'populates', it finds only very few files.

Any help/advice/suggestions appreciated,
Cam
