Default Permanently Stuck on 'Starting Connection'

Hi People - First time poster would appreciate some guidance.

My Limewire Pro connection now seems permanently stuck on 'Starting Connection'. Previously it could sometimes be a little slow to get to turbo charged and in recent months it appeared that it would occasionally not move on from 'Starting Connection'. It seemed that closing down Limewire and restarting the computer would be enough to get things moving again.

However since the turn of the year, returning from holiday, it never gets beyond 'Starting Connection' and restarting it no longer works. i don't want to uninstall/reinstall or upgrade without seeing if there is a more basic issue that needs sorting. Any help is much appreciated.

Technical details as follows - Limewire PRO 4.12.6. Windows XP Home edition on Sky Broadband (UK). 88.8 gb of free space. Norton 360 installed with firewalls set to ALLOW Limewire. Netgear modem (not sure about 'port forwarding' or whatever). Nothing's shared and it all worked with this set up a couple of weeks ago.

Check out this thread for heaps of different fixes to try: If LW Will Not Connect

Start off by deleting LW's preferences folder. Next thing I'd try is deleting/replacing gnutella.net file. If they don't work, go through the rest of the fixes (particularly changing port numbers)

Have you tried connecting outside of peak hours (5pm - 12am)? I can't find any info to suggest that Sky actually block ports, but their fair access/fair use policies may apply during peak hours. Just try outside of peak hours & see if it makes any difference.

If nothing helps & you're still stuck, please post back with a few more system details - that help thread has info about which details we need.

Cheers Birdy - replacing the Gnutella file did the trick big time. In fact, it appears to have improved the performance - a virtually instant leap into turbo, rather than my normal 10 - 20 min wait. I did notice when deleting the original gnutella file that it's size was 1 byte - a symptom of a corrupt file that maybe people can look out for?
