Putting my problem first:
I had Limewire working on a Windows XP computer. The computer "was" directly connected to OptusNet (Australia) via a Motorola Surfboard Cable modem with the WinXP SP2 firewall configured.

Then I had the bright idea to hook up all my gear on a LAN and I got a D-Link DIR-300.

Now I can't make Limewire work. So far I have
* turned off the WinXP SP2 firewall
* left the D-Link Dir-300 at factory settings which includes UPnP turned on
* installed the UPnP network service on the PC - the only change I noticed is my router now turns up in Network Neighbourhood and I have to tell my wife not to mess with it.

I will answer the questions as from the sticky:

no software firewall now, setting the D-LINK DIR-300 is my problem.
3. How much ram?
504 mb - it worked before the d-link.
4. Hard Disk space available?
5GB+ - it worked before the d-link.

I have three PC's connected to the DIR-300. They connect successfully as a MS Workgroup.
Two computers have firewall rules preventing access to internet. The firewall rules used are based on their reserved DHCP assigned IP addresses.
I want one PC to have unrestricted access to the internet. That is the one I am posting from now. All applications I am currently using from this PC are working except for Limewire.
Those applications are:
FTP
Internet Explorer 8
Windows Update
Outlook (email)
Outlook Express (news)
Symantec Antivirus Live Update
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
I already had limewire and used it for ages before I got the D-Link DIR-300, before I got that I was using the WinXP firewall without any problem.

14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled?
UPnP is supposed to be enabled but I don't know anything about it.
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall
Only security app is Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition

17. Has anything in your setup changed recently? Have you updated your version of LW or Java? Have you added any new software or new hardware? Have you updated any software? Have you moved house, changed internet plan or ISP etc etc?
Problem started since I wanted to network my home PCs instead of just having one pc on the net.

I added a D-Link DIR-300 between my previously working PC / Motorola Surfboard cable modem.

Now I don't get a working connection.

I used a different thread

and tried the same advice (Port Forwarding for the Dlink DIR-655)

I downloaded the port checker http://www.portforward.com/store/PFP...cker1.0.28.exe
and got the all clear, so according to that I have successfully set up port forwarding on my router.

So why does it still not work?

WRT the "standard q's" see next post - this problem is specifically about the D-Link DIR-300 I'm pretty sure.

On the Australian "Whirlpool" forum (whirlpool.net.au) they have suggested an alternative firmware for the router (WRT blah blah). I don't want to do this without a serial connection because I don't want to brick the router.

3 PC LAN all works fine including 1 networked printer.
2 PC's locked off from internet via firewall rules based on permenantly allocated dhcp tcp/ip addresses - my own pc is not included in this address range otherwise I wouldn't be able to make this post!

I was using LW before I added the D-Link DIR-300 to my system... it was my own pc hooked up to the Motorola cable modem via ethernet and it all just worked too well!

I set up Port Forwarding AND UPnP is still turned on.

I am using Symantec AV Corporate Edition only.
16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland).

I have added the D-Link DIR-300.

When you did the port forwarding did you do it for both TCP & UDP? I used a much earlier model of D-Link a few years ago. The control window on it looks quite different. It has option to choose both tcp & udp, however it is best to do a separate port forward for each. Make sure the port or port range is same as LW & vice-versa. Make sure Manual Port Forward setting is enabled on LW's advanced firewall setting. You said UPnP is still enabled. Manual port forward instructions & sample image. Must be same port as the one you port forwarded. Also use same port number for both Connection & Listening ports.

Oh .. something I do recall about the D-Link is you needed to reboot both the router & the computer for the changes to be properly saved & put into operation, & for the computer to recognise the changes. (But mine was an older model.)

When setting up the static ip address for the port forwarding, that process must be done first else the entire port forwarding would need to be erased & repeated. The static ip address should be similar to the router's, example: router's address @ 192.168.0.1 & your ip address at perhaps @ 192.168.0.3

No other LW's on your network may use the same port as this one you port forwarded.

I see nothing wrong with your port forward rules.
Take a closer look at the options on the Router, is there a security which gives particular strength of security? Some routers have such an option, works in some ways like a firewall rather than just an average NAT router.
