You might need to port forward your device. You call it RCA, I do know some brands change (taken over) or are sold under other brand names under license at times. (I do remember seeing RCA listed at the following site but seems to have been removed, perhaps due to one of the above reasons.)

Here are the steps for port forwarding & must be in this order:
1. Static IP address on a Windows XP

2. Port Forwarding for the Thomson/Alcatel DCW725. Double-check this to be sure it looks the same & same log in. ;)

Also check the security settings of the router. Sometimes they have strength of security which unnecessarily blocks games, etc. If it does have a high medium low, perhaps try lowering it a little. :)

Thank you for the help, but it still will not connect.

Have you tried these suggestions: If LW 4 Will Not Connect (click on the blue link) :)

I tried those first and nothing worked

hmm ... with a backup of the new gnutella.net file you downloaded, deleting the LW preferences & putting the gnutella.net file inside should have some effect.

Tools -> Options -> Connections. Disable option. Close LW. Open LW, wait 5+ mins. Then go to file menu choose Connect.

Another option, strangely works for connections sometimes is to remove all your Java versions & reinstall using the offline Java installer; http://www.gnutellaforums.com/333278-post2.html

Still no luck

After you deleted LW's preferences folder, did you have to go through LW's setup wizard next time you started LW?

Find your gnutella.net file, hover your cursor over the file - what size is it?

When you were port forwarding, did you make sure that LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within router setup were all the same number?

Try downloading LW 5 - apparently that doesn't need the gnutella.net file to be replaced if there's a connection problem. Don't worry if you don't want to use LW 5, you can easily revert to 4.18.8 again;) It's worth trying the newer version to see whether it connects.
There's a link for download within this post (click on link): http://www.gnutellaforums.com/333278-post2.html
Go through steps 1 - 8 in that link, even if you've tried some of them before.

And here's a link to download 4.18.8 again if you want to: Lime Wire » Download Out-Of-Date Installers

yes, 25.3 KB, yes, and neither 4 or 5 will work for me

Lord of the Rings May 15th, 2009 12:51 PM

So what have you tried so far, tell us in detail. And is LW on your firewall exception list? Are you port forwarded or using UPnP?

mcdonald19 May 15th, 2009 04:46 PM

I have tried all the advice you have given me so far, as well as all the steps on the if limewire wont connect forum. It is on the firewall exceptions and I have tried both upnp and port forwarding

Try an earlier Java. Either this version of Java 6: Archive: Download Java Platform Standard Edition (Java SE) 6u5

Or this version of Java 5: Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

Make sure to remove any other Java versions before installing a different version. Reboot after the installation's finished.

Is your router connected via USB or Ethernet cable?

I tried using another computer, connected through an ethernet cable to the same modem and it allows limewire to work perfectly

Great! So sounds like a settings or installation issue on the computer account in question. Perhaps change port number for connecting. Also if using LW 5, set to not connect immediately under Connection setting. Let LW open, wait 5-10 mins, go to File menu -> Connect.
