Tried Everything And Can't Connect

I have Windows XP
AMD 64
Recently Had Trend Micro Internet Security but uninstalled it
(limewire worked when I had Trend Micro and placed Limewire as an exception thru the Trend Micro firewall but as soon as I uninstalled Trend Micro, Limewire stopped working)

I originally had 4.12.3 Limewire
When I tried to open it I got an error that.."I may have a firewall that is preventing it from Limewire from opening"

So I turned off my windows firewall, got the same error still
Made sure windows firewall had Limewire listed as an exception and it does
Then I went to "run" and "regedit" and removed anything that said trend micro or tmas

Still got the same error

I uninstalled the old version of Limewire and downloaded/installed the new version of Limewire.

Now I get a generic error and it asks if I would like to send a bug report.

Did that

Then I looked thru here and saw someone respond in another thread saying you should download JS2E Runtime Evmt.

So I did that...didnt fix it

I have right clicked and "Run As" both the top option and the bottom as administrator

I have cleaned with CCleaner

It still wont load and my old version of limewire said it had to do with a firewall that doesnt exist

the new version of limewire says to send a bug and this is the bug

Can someone please help me?

Thank you

Remoc May 23rd, 2009 03:58 AM

8/18th, I would suggest that you STOP Posting multiple posts and take a chill Pi!! until someone can offer some assistance.

I have deleted most of your multi posts, so patience is the best medicine for now.

We who help here are volunteers, and do this in our spare time, so calm down and help will arrive in time.

If you continue to act in this manner, you may never get any help :)

augusteighteenth May 23rd, 2009 04:51 AM

Everytime I posted I got an error saying it wasnt posted...Thanks for being so nice by asking why I am reposting instead of assuming I need to take a "chill ****."

Im a 34 yo woman..dont need repremanding...I humbly asked for help, hopefully the volunteers here can treat me as I am treating them instead of like a child.

Thanks for your reply

Yes, your posts are being moderated because of the Spam filter. Will have to wait for one of the Admn. The spam filter picks up words in a post that have been entered into it to help prevent spam. My apologies. I would try to help, but I don't use LW, Sorry

Try steps 1 - 7 here in that order (even if you've tried some of them before): http://www.gnutellaforums.com/333278-post2.html

Okay I went to the links and got the latest offline versions of limewire and java
then I uninstalled limewire and all versions of java
i ran ccleaner on the registry part...3 times cause things kept coming up after it said it was clean
then i DL java
then i DL LW
went to run limewire and still got a bug error

=[

Did you also use the MS cleanup utility?

Try also doing point 8 - deleting the preferences folder. Make sure that LW's closed before you do this (check in Task Manager to make sure there's no LW process running, if there is - end the process).

No, It said cc "or" MS...should I redo everything and do both?

Ill just redo it all..and come back here when Im done

augusteighteenth May 23rd, 2009 11:04 PM

Okay, I re-did everything...the MS utility didnt have LW or Java listed.

No change in the result

birdy May 23rd, 2009 11:59 PM

Ok - after you deleted the preferences folder, did you have to go through LW's setup again & reset all of your options?

Usually, the kind of error that you posted is a Java problem. But maybe uninstalling Trend Micro has cause some conflict somewhere - I honestly wouldn't have a clue about that. I've never used any Trend Micro security.

You said in an earlier post that Yahoo Messenger was also not working - is that still out?

Shut down LW, make sure that it's properly closed (check in Task Manager) & then just for a minute turn off XP's firewall. Control Panel > Windows Firewall > check the Off radio button > ok.
Once you've had the popup warning you that Win firewall is off, start LW & see if it connects. Give it one or two minutes to connect - if nothing happens in that time then tuen the XP firewall back on.

Don't leave the XP firewall off - this is just a test to see whether LW will connect.

Yes I had to go thru the whole set up process again

Messenger is actually working now..I had to change the Proxy pref in the connection settings. Same for Cute ftp 8

Ive actually turned off the Windows Firewall this whole time...

=[ Its not looking good huh.

I feel like somehow the settings in Trend Micro were deleted with the program and somehow new ones cant take their place (if that makes sense)

If there was a way for me to get into LW pref's and change the connecting info....?

Oh and in the registry...there are Trend Micro Drivers that wont delete..I may go into regedit thru safe mode and see if I can delete them..ill check back if that doesnt work...

augusteighteenth May 24th, 2009 12:14 AM

Thank you for helping me

birdy May 24th, 2009 01:08 AM

Just in case the timing of uninstalling TM & LW not working is a big coincidence - could you give us your system details? Check the link below:)
System details - help us to help you -> Provide these details when you post!!!

Have you tried FrostWire? It's very similar to LW (uses the same source code) but sometimes it's worked for people when LW hasn't. It's worth a try!
You can download FW here: FrostWire.com - Official Website - Download Free P2P BitTorrent/Gnutella Client - No Subscriptions, Just Download and Install

Or, if you like you could also try Phex. It's a bit different to LW & FW but still connects to the Gnutella network. I think it's a good program. If you'd like to try Phex, you can download it here: Phex - Download

There's helpful info for getting started in these links.
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/new-ph...ome-guide.html
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/new-ph...aq-howtos.html

Let's just see whether another p2p app works:)

Lord of the Rings May 24th, 2009 03:46 AM

Try changing compatibility mode & setting to run as Admin in points # 5 & 6 : Fixes for Limewire (click on blue link).

If you totally removed LW, cleaned registry, removed preferences folder, replaced old Java versions with a single clean installation again, after cleaning registry, then LW or FW should run ok.

With your software firewall, yes only choose one. You will probably need to remove old firewall exception rules added for LW & re-add them for any different version of LW you install, or FrostWire also.

I don't think LW 4.12 had the firewall blue-world icon, can't remember.

That should not happen. Comcast blocking port 6346? What security software do you have on your computer? Which spyware, anti-adware & malware programs ... and any other security programs do you have on your system? Peerguardian?

Check your firewall security settings to see if port 6346 is blocked for any reason. Tried a different browser to check that test page?

Also, some ISP's give the option to block port ranges outside of the ones a browser normally uses. Check your ISP account online, see if there are any security settings. Check if comcast supplies any anti-spyware or anti-virus or other security or blocking of ports.

Did you install any new programs or do any system updates not long before you started having problems with LW? Did you install alcohol?

Very good ideas...Im about to go to bed but work on this when I wake. Thank you...

As far as antivirus..I was using trend micro for everything...recently removed it and thats when I stopped being able to load LW.

Ill work on and reply to everything when I wake up.

augusteighteenth May 24th, 2009 04:25 AM

For some reason I replied to you but its not showing so Ill repost.

Basically I said thank you and all of that are good suggestions. Its 4:24 here and Im going to bed but Im going to do what youve told me when I wake up.

Then I said that only antivirus software I was using was trend micro..been using it for years..it was a trial so i removed it and was going to purchase..im waiting to see the result on this though.

Before lately, Ive been using limewire as long as it exsisted...with no problems

augusteighteenth May 24th, 2009 09:48 PM

Okay I tried a lot of tings today and nothing worked. I ended up downloading Windows Live OneCare and then reinstalled limewire. When I finished and started limewire up...Windows Live Onecare asked if I wanted to unblock LW with its firewall...I said "yes" and now it works...I dont know what firewall I have in my pc that was blocking it...cause the reg windows firewall has it listed as an exception and I also turned it off to start up LW. While Trend Micro was uninstalled but the drivers wont delete....either way..I am back up and running. Thank you all for all your help...Greatness!
