limewire pro will not connect or stay connected

Someone please help! I have an emachine D520 laptop with windows vista. I just installed limewire pro 5.4.6. I keep having problems with the limewire pro not connecting or staying connected to the internet. I have checked my firewalls and limewire pro is listed as a trusted program. Most of the time I have no internet connection with limewire. I paid to have the upgrade hoping that it would "always stay connected to the internet". That's what the advertisement stated to me when I had limewire basic. Limewire basic stayed connected to the internet more than limewire pro. Also the other problem i am having is that I will start a download and it will go for a while and then all of a sudden it will stop transmitting kbs. The downloads show that I am connected to 12 or more p2p. But its showing 0kbs for all of the downloads at the same time. Right now I have 8 downloads and they all show that they are connected to at leasts 12 p2p, but it is transmitting 0kbs. What could be causing this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Having connection and downloading problems

Hello,

I am at my wits end. :bangh: Please help me! I have an emachine D520 laptop with windows vista home edition. My internet provider is Hughes Net. (see attachment for system details) I just upgraded my limewire from basic to pro 5.4.6 because the homepage stated that it would allow me to always stay connected to internet, which was the problem I was having with basic. The problem is, I'm not staying connected. The connection starts up for a little while, about 20 to 45 minutes then it disconnects and I can't get it to come back on for one to two hours. I went into tools- advanced tools- connections and there it stated that my limewire was behind a NAT firewall that assigns different external ports to each connection. I don't know what that means, but, I have followed all the advice from the forums, checking my firewalls. My windows defender and windows firewall is definetly turned off. The only firewall that I have on is from my security virus protection, Defender Pro 2010. I went into the firewall advanced settings and specifically looked at the setting for limewire. The firewall states that for every contingency e.g. traffic, listening, incoming, outgoing, any port or adapter, etc., it was set up to "allow" . So I don't understand what else could be causing the problem. I also checked my Java and I have the latest updates. And I even followed one of the forum moderators recommendation of disabling the ultrapeer capabilities, disabling connecting to mojito DHT, and disabled TLS capabilities. But I am having no success. Then later on today I found some advice from a moderator on deleting my limewire preference folder. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/window...ng-should.htmlThis is the site page that contained the information. I painstakingly followed every step and even pasted my download.dat file back into the preference folder after deleting the old download file. When I started my limewire pro back up my downloads were transmitting 0kbs for all 8 of my downloads. And instead of being connected to 12/13 or more p2ps they only showed being connected to 4 p2ps. My limewire pro is still not connecting to the internet. When it briefly connected and i went to tools - advanced tools - connections it stated that I was a lead node. It also said that I was behind a firewall that did not support firewall transfers. Any direction you can offer for my problem would be most welcomed. Please see attachment "System Details" which provides details on my computer.

Thank you for your consideration.

Answered via PM with advice to limit simultaneous downloads & check the other fixes here: If LW 5 Will Not Connect
And requested these details: System details - help us to help you -> Provide these details when you post!!!

Since you're seeing 12 or more hosts per file, sounds like you're downloading torrents. Does the same thing happen if you download a single file (just one download) from the Gnutella network (not a torrent file)?

LW isn't a good torrent client & is banned from some private trackers. Most people here would recommend either uTorrent or Vuze (formerly Azureus)

Limewire pro will not connect or stay connected

The files I am trying to download are not torrent files. They are simple mp3, avi, mp4 files. Since I have had limewire I have always received data from 10 or more p2ps per download even when it was a simple 4 or 5mb file. When I had Limewire basic I did not have this problem nearly as much as I have had since I downloaded Limewire Pro. Before I posted this thread I had viewed the thread on 'If LW 5 will not connect' and went through the steps/instructions given there, but I was unsuccessful in solving the problem. I have again attached a Pdf file which contains the system details for my laptop. I hope you will be able to help me solve this problem because I keep running into a brick wall, make that walls.

Thanks again for your consideration.

Is LW on your Vista firewall safe list (exceptions)? Setting up an exception for LimeWire in your software firewall (click in link)

Can you give more details about your system please .. the ones you gave in the attachment are the basics only .. we need to know about your modem/router, any other security software or firewalls, etc. :)

birdy January 12th, 2010 01:17 AM

Ah, sorry... I forgot that you were using Pro - hence my query about torrents (more than 10 hosts per file) :o

Please click on this blue link: System details - help us to help you -> Provide these details when you post!!!

You'll see a list of questions. Please post the answers to those questions as a reply to this thread. We need that info (like ISP, router model, whether you're using UPnP or port forwarding, where you're connecting from etc) in order to try & help you.

Hello Birdy,

To answer some of your questions, I have been able to reach Turbo Connection ( blue bars) but it does not stay but a couple of minutes, that's if it actually connects to start with. 90% of the time I would say that it will not even connect. When I had Basic it stayed connected alot longer and when I did download I would receive data from many p2p. I could see the kbs fluxuate and the mbs go up as the downloads continued. Now the downloads that I currently have will show the p2p and the blue bar that indicates the amount downloaded, but there are no kbs (0kbs) and where it shows the est. number of hours/minutes/seconds left to finish download there appears some crazy figures for the hours/minutes/seconds. I have attached a pdf file that contains a print screen of what limewire is doing during my downloads. I followed your advice and went to the http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ and the response came back "Your Test Worked". Also I am not using any other p2p programs for downloading/file sharing, just Limewire Pro 5.4.6. I went to your link for computer details and I keep attaching a pdf file that shows my computer details. Have you been able to view that file? I tried to just copy and paste the details in this message but it does not work. Also, I mentioned in another message, I'm not sure if it was you I sent that one to, but I stated that I am using an Emachine D520 laptop with Windows Vista Home Basic. My ISP provider is Hughes Net which is satilite. It has a modem , Huges HN9000. The modem is connected to the gray port of my D-Link WBR 2310 wireless router. And from there I receive my internet both, local and wireless. When I go to the D-Link site to see my router configurations, it shows that my router has a Dynamic Connection with DHCP server enabled. The router IP address is 192.168.1.1 with subnet 255.255.255.0. My DNS Relay is enabled. My router wireless settings are enabled with a TKIP cipher WPA personal enhanced encryption. When I go to my LAN settings for router it has MAC address 00-1e-58-29-ea-5d, IP address 192.168.1.1, DHCP server is enabled. My router WAN settings MAC address 00-1e-58-29-ea-5e with IP address 192.168.0.2. The DNS is 67.142.167.10. The DHCP Clent is connected. I have no virtual server listed or anyone in port forwarding. Nor do I have anyone listed in my Network Filter or Website Filter. My router firewall settings have VPN Passthrough with PPTP, L2TP, and IPSec Passtroughs all enabled. Under my advanced wireless settings, my TX rate is auto, transmit power 100%, beacon interval 100, RTS threshold 2346, fragmentation 2346, preamble type is short, CTS mode is auto, WMM Function is disabled. My advanced network settings indicate that my UPNP is enabled, my WAN Ping Respond is enabled, WAN port speed is 10/100Mbps auto, GAMING Mode and Multicast streams are both enabled. Do you need to know my Limewire Pro properties? Let me know.

Yes, we were able to view the computer details pdf - it just wasn't quite the info that we were looking for :)

HughesNet might be your problem... other people have had probs in the past. If you use the forum search to look for Hughes, HughesNet, or satellite you'll find quite a few older threads.
Some people have had probs with slow downloads due to the FAP: http://consumer.hughesnet.com/faq/fa...ess-policy.cfm
and some people have had connection problems as well. Have you tried connecting/downloading off peak (2 am - 7 am) just to see whether there's any difference?

When you were using basic LW, were you using 5.4.6 or were you using an earlier version?

Your router has UPnP enabled - have you also got 'use UPnP' ticked within LW's options (tools > options > advanced > listening ports)?
And have you changed listening port to something in the range of 49152 - 65535 (as per the 'if LW 5 will not connect' thread)?

Have you removed all LW rules from your Defender Pro firewall settings & then added new ones?
AFAIK Hughes also provide a security suite (including ZoneAlarm firewall)... are you sure that you don't have their security as well as Defender Pro? If it turned out that you did have their security without realising it, you'd need to turn off ZA... 2 firewalls will conflict with each other.

You could also temporarily disable your AV protection & then start up LW - just to see whether that might also be a factor.

Can you connect to your router via ethernet cable & see whether anything changes?

When you deleted LW's preferences folder originally, did all of your settings within LW's options revert to default? People often have probs after either updating to a newer LW or upgrading to Pro. And in those cases, deleting the prefs folder is often the only fix needed. But you need to make sure that the folder's been deleted properly - if options settings don't revert to default after restarting LW then it means that the folder wasn't deleted.

Have you tried another Gnutella client? I think I remember another HughesNet user having heaps of trouble with LW but then Phex worked really well... try either Phex or FrostWire (very similar to LW) & see if you have any luck.
Phex
FrostWire

Or you could try port forwarding for LW if nothing else is working. First you'll need to set up a static IP address (not an address that you get from Hughes - just one that you set up so that your router recognises your computer). The instructions are here: PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall

After setting up a static IP address, you can port forward. Instructions for your router are here: Port Forwarding Limewire on the Dlink WBR-2310
Those instructions are still referring to LW 4 - for your version of LW you'll need to go to LW's tools > options > advanced > listening ports in order to find out which port LW listens on ;)

I wouldn't go disabling NAT - it's there for protection. I think LOTR had a D-Link router at some stage... he might be able to help you more with the UPnP passthrough settings. I'm lost with that.

Lord of the Rings January 13th, 2010 09:57 PM

Port forwarding is always more reliable than UPnP mode. But make sure you set up the static ip address first before doing the port forwarding. With the port forwarding, enable it for both TCP & UDP (actually better to do a separate port forward for each but not necessary.) Also, with the DI-Links, you usually need to both save settings & then reboot the router to get the changes fully operational.

Likewise with Birdy, I'd suggest you choose a high port number to connect to which also includes using that same port number to port forward. As she suggested, a port number between 49152 - 65535. :)

In your LW settings, change from UPnP to Port Forward & put in the number you port forwarded for each of the connection & listening port areas.

Oh crap, I forgot to say that in my post
LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within router setup must all be the same number.
