Connecting.................help So i just found out about the new LW. I was a user before it got shut down. I tried using Frostfire, but didn't really like it. Wanted to try this out to see if its any better. So the problem is that when i first opened LW i noticed that it wouldn't connect. I have been looking at the forums and trying most of the solutions and nothing seems to work. I just ran Frostwire and it was connected. Maybe thought that would be a problem so i uninstalled it. But no luck...plz help 1. OS version? Windows 7 64-bit 2. What firewalls you have? Just Windows 3. How much ram? 8gigs 4. Hard Disk space available? 800gb 5. Connection type? Broadband. 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? (eg: Linksys WRT54Gv4) 2Wire 2701HG-B 7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? House 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? LW 5 and Jave 6 update 29 9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? ATT 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? No 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. First time using pirate edition |

Try this http://www.gnutellaforums.com/gettin...tml#post366151. It is a MUST that your Java is set to 'Run as Administrator' for Windows 7. Otherwise you will struggle with connection. ie: re-install Java 1.6 set to Run as Admin. Since this is your first time using LPE, you have choice of viewing search results in either Classic or list mode. Classic is similar to LW 4's listing. If you were previously a LW 5 user you probably know about this. |
| ||||
When you installed LPE was it a clean installation or did you install over the top of your previous LW? LPE works best if a clean installation, ie: remove previous preferences folder. You tried the suggestions in this thread?: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html Also make sure you made an exception for LW in your firewall. It might be a good idea to disable connecting as an ultrapeer until your LW gets settled. Connecting as an Ultrapeer takes much much longer. If you go to LW's menu bar, Tools -> Advanced Tools, does it say at the top-left-side you are firewalled? Also, does it show being connected to any ultrapeers on the right-side? |

There is a chance your router (according to dslreports) does not support UPnP which is a system where a program requests the router to open a port in its firewall temporarily whilst the program is open. The earlier releases of 2Wire 2701HG-B did not have UPnP support. In this case, you might need to port forward your router. Generally when port forwarding, you first need to set up a static ip address, though I did not see them suggest this for your router at Portforward.com. Your model: Port Forwarding Limewire on the 2wire 2701HG-B - PortForward.com, and portforward.com shows the LW 4 set-up directions, the LW 5 one is here (ie: LW's Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Listening Ports.) You can also test your ports with http://portforward.com/help/portcheck.htm but should have LW open when you do. |
