I'm still working on getting webspace.

Yeah thanks.
Will you publish your modified code too?

Krieger88 July 19th, 2002 11:14 AM

I submitted the code to the LimeWire developer mailinglists. I don't plan to release the whole source on the webserver at the moment, but I'll send the diffs to anybody who requests them.

Do you have a Mac OSX version?

Thanks, interesting improvements. Do you have a Mac OSX version?

I don't exactly have an MacOSX version (since I don't own a Mac), - but simply overwriting an existing LimeWire MacOSX installation with the files in that .zip package (especially LimeWire.jar & MessageBundles.jar) should enable you to use it .

Since we are all talking Java here, wouldn't these files, if substituted for those originally installed, work on any OS? I suppose I could just try it out, and if it explodes....

I use Mac OS 9.2 and will continue to do so rather than pay over 100€ for a bunch of souped-up Claris crap designed for people who don't know what a DayTimer is and want to spend the rest of their lives entering trivial data.

Hmmm...well, it doesn't explode, but it doesn't work either. Limewire simply refuses to open.

Here is what I did: After StuffIt unzipped the archive, the files were all text docs. I changed the two files you mentioned above to the type and creator of their originals: ZIP (with a hidden character somewhere, but that copies and pastes) and java.

After I substituted these new files for their originals, I got the following error message:

java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.limegroup.gnutella.gui.Main
at com.zerog.lax.LAX.launch(Compiled Code)
at com.zerog.lax.LAX.main(Unknown Source)
at com.apple.mrj.JManager.JMStaticMethodDispatcher.ru n(JMAWTContextImpl.java)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java)

Krieger, don't you have a Mac friend somewhere with whom you can test this out? There are lots in Germany, you know! ;) I don't want to spend all my time swatting Morpheus and Gnucleus ultrapeers!

Krieger88 July 21st, 2002 05:00 AM

Nope, I don't know anybody using a Mac. And what you are experiencing isn't a Mac specific problem, it seems as if your classpath isn't set quit right. The start script from ZeroG can't find the LimeWire.jar file.

Schade. We Mac users are charming and intelligent people with classy looking computers ;) It's just that our Java version is antique.

When I replaced the files I had substituted, things returned to normal, so incorrect path or no, LW found its way back.

I should also note that there are two issues being confused here by some posters. 1) the Morpheus ultrapeer issue, where a Morpheus UP doesn't give you search results but floods your computer with searches such as ".avi", "mpg", or "porn". and 2) Morpheus users, who have the reputation for not sharing files.

The second issue, as far as I am concerned, is already taken care of by LW preferencing. The first concerns me far more, which is why I wish I could install Krieger's little fix.

Otherwise, I think any user has the right to determine who does and does not connect to his/her computer.
