Broxibear, I'd like to know the answer to that one. Actually, I'd like to have even 1 user, as opposed to none. Most of the time I have only 'awaiting sources.

I'd like to have the machine you'r running, too. Seems like a really nice one. As to the memory, do you think a gig adds much to the performance as compared to 412Mb?

heel yeah, the best thing is that i can run Limewire, have a movie playing with WMP10 + My System running as well as various other bits & Bobs and there's still plenty frre mem left to go around, hope u understand wot i mean by this !!! and also soz to hear that ur having worse connections than me as well.

you're right people don't read. i use an amd athlon 64 3000+ 80 gig hd 512m of ram xp2 sp2 a d-link di-604 router and charter cable modem. java 1.5 disabled sp firewall and use mcafee and the one in the router. this is a home net. when i installed lw 4.2.6 had lousy downloads and no uploads. read the faq amd many threads in the forum. what i did after reading all this was to go into the router and give myself a stattic ip changed to port 8346 to keep from conflicting with the other 2 computers on my net. opened up the firewall for that port. then when into xp control panel internet connect properties local area connect tcp/ip properties. and set my static ip. disabled al tcp/ip filtering. enabled net bios over tcp/ip set my static ip in the advanced settings. in connection status manually configured my static ip. in lw i channged to port 8346 forced it and throttled back some on upload bandwidth. then i told mcafee that lw had full access. now people can upload off me. my downloads sometimes smoke and sometimes they crawl. depends on who i hook to i guess. my one problem is that sometimes when i am hooked to 3 or 4 hosts it still downloads at less than 1kpbs. then i can hook to 1 host and get 75kpbs once i get that whipped i'll be a happy camper. overall pretty nice. my point is that if you do your homework and configure all the elements of the puzzle correctly you can make it work. don't just give up after a little while. i'm not a computer geek, just someone who doesn't like to be beat by a machine

Not sure if that's really meant for me. I feel a confusion of identity.

I live in Texas and have never done any fly fishing, and know little to nothing about it.
I love salewater fishing, however. Don't get to do it much lately, cause we now live about a 100 miles from the coast.

Gonna move to Freeport, someday, and resume.

Say, I can't find the route to pick an icon, anymore. I did when I first got on to this thing, but now all I see are the smileys, and I don't particularly want them. I like yours, and thought maybe you could give me a hint as to how you do it.

Thanks,

Dev

Hi everyone I have big problem. However I download a music video or movies, I can't seem to download any higher than 20 KB per sec even from cable user and I'm using PRO Verison. This is like that all the time and all of people I asked never have this problem even though my cable might be 1/2 time better than their own. I'm not sure if the first page apply to me or I'm just simple confused so I will explain what I have, etc. I use road runner cable which as of now allow 5 Mbps per sec and a little bit higher than 300 upload. This is very very fast and whatever I play video games online, I always have the lowest ping out of everyone and I could easily download 140 MB file in under 4 mins and 30 sec when downloading from internet or any sever except for peer to peer network. So clearly there must be something wrong. I use router which I connect to 2 computer. The wireless I use is D-Link. It is PCI card. I had a game that I couldn't host so I try to add IP and Port for that game in D-Link website (website with something like 192.165.1.1) and it work perfectly. So I was wondering if I need to add IP and Port in D-Link website for Limewire? If so, Please PLEASE tell me how to do it step by step. Thanks a LOT!!!

Hi deafguy
Yes you probably will need to forward a port for your D-Link. Although the new version of LW has UPnP which, if your device uses that technology will overcome the issue. However, I use a D-Link & continue to manually forward a port with good results. As you're aware with a lot of net games & also video conferencing, etc. you need to open ports. For LW you need to open Port 6346 Without knowing your model the best I can do is direct you to http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm & D-Link is listed at the top of the page. Also see this: Force IP instructions & sample image Remember you can only forward port 6346 for one computer so any others that use LW would need to have a separate port no. port forwarded (eg: 6348/6342)

Some other hints (except for this thread): A well set-up LW can start to automatically continue its dwnlding after it's settled down perhaps 2 out of 3 times you open LW. Optimising Uplds & downlds & last & least are search & dwnld hints. The latter one I've been thinking about re-writing for some time. That's just for playing it safe. eg- I show all speeds & qualities.

I use DWL-520 D-Link wireless PCI. So please tell me what to do step by step to add IP and Port and what to do in opitions in Limewire. And what about adding IP in D-Link website for IP?? Or just add port only?? This is what it look like when I need to do Port Forwarding.

Local IP Adr/ Start Port/ End Port/ Protocol Enabled

Tell me what to add in there and I just add 6346 in Limewire, force ip and that's it? If the information you will give to me cannot be viewed by public, please send me a private message.
