SLOW DOWNLOADS

hi LeeWare

I am a very new user to Lime, tried out the basic prog, everything
went really well I then bought Lime pro and since then downloads take for ages. I have read your thread on downloading and carried out your instructions so I am now
keeping my fingers crossed.

I have found my Ip address how do I now force this into lime.

Thank you so much for your help

Hi Pat,

Forcing your IP will not resolve the problem Besides, I think that they removed that option from limewire.

Sorry

Suggestions

Nicole,

If I understand what you said correctly. You have 3-4 copies of limewire installed on the same computer under different profiles and all of the them work except yours. If this is true, then I would verify that following.

1) on each of the different installations compare the versions. Help/About (its been a while.)

2) from one of the installations that "works" search for something and then download it.

3) on your copy repeat the same search and try to download the same file.

What are the results?

Suggestion

Hello

I posted this on the main board, but since a lot of my post has to do with this particular thread, I decided I should post it here. I am sorry for adding to the length of this post!

Does "Maximizing .." sticky need to be updated??

Ok, I am getting no uploads, so I search the FAQ etc. etc. trying to find an answer. I start to read the sticky post about maximizing your downloads/uploads.. I get to the part about "forcing" your IP, and I start looking everywhere for a button to let me force my IP. This is after wading through 8 or 9 pages of you-know-what.

Finally I come to the conclusion that there is no button to check anymore. It would have been nice to know that before I wasted all that time looking for it! Anyway, I am back to square one and I really don't feel like reading the whole 30 pages of that sticky note. So my suggestion is to remove any obsolete information that is in it (if there is any) and perhaps shorten it to a managable length so old ladies like me can read it in the span of an evening.

I believe I have correctly forwarded the port, and I am no longer seeing the firewall symbol. What more do I need to do to share my many files?

I would be so grateful for some help.

Thanks

Ongoing Problems With Downloads

I've followed LeeWare's excellent instructions, as well as read the FAQ on firewalls, but am also experiencing a real problem in not being able to download.

All I'm getting are busy hosts, Need more sources etc, with the occassional song actually connecting and getting downloaded.

I've got a strong connection and the songs appear when I do the search function, I try and download only those on Cable and with low host #'s, ie: under 10,but it just isn;'t working.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

3. Finally, if you are using NAT (meaning that the IP address of your machine is 10.x.x.x or 192.x.x.x ) now, might be able to connect, search and download from the network but no one will be able to upload from you. If you have taken the advise of others to force your IP using limewire then your half way there, as your port forwarding is working correctly. But, you need to FORCE THE IP OF YOUR ROUTER or FIREWALL to the network. To find out what your ip is from the machine that you use to get on Gnutella open a web browser to http://www.whatismyip.com
(write this IP down and force this IP in Limewire) If you need help testing this Just post a reply to this thread.

My IP is 192.168.0.1 i dont understand what you are telling me to do when you say to force the ip of my router. i did what you said to do in part three of the downloading portion. but i dont know where to go from there. i am running windows xp home edition from home over a cable connection at 54 mbps. please help.

That info about being on a network is a little out of date. LW now has the ability to connect easily with such users. No need to ban such addresses. Only problem being that nobody will be able to direct connect with such users.

But still, it does show that you're not configured properly. And it is as a result of your router. You either need to enable UPnP or manual port forward. See these sections here Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link)

The term Force IP has been replaced. It is no longer used. It has been replaced with port forwarding. eg: Manual port forward instructions & sample image. But see the above link about connections to get full instructions about the whole process.
