There are two places you can check the status of your connectivity to the gnutella network.
1) lower right hand corner of the screen Quality  shows your current connectivity status)
2) check the connection tab (shows if you are connected to other gnutella clients - Ultrapeers and how long you've been connected.) If you computer is attempting to connect for more than a few minutes there is a problem.
