When I download a video clip with an .asf file name, they open IE and then take me to a specific website. Is this an inherent issue with .asf files?

That happened to me once and that was enough. I don't download .asf files.

Not all .asf files will do that, only ones where the author puts the link in. It's not a bug, it's a feature. A crappy one though.
