Default locations

i have 31 files that i am sharing that say that they have 0 locations, yet i can launch them and can go right to them in the shared folder. Why do they not list a location for these files and could this be why i get several hits but no upload attempts? these files were downloaded on an earlier version of limewire. Could this be the reason why they claim to have no location? what can I do to allow them a location and therefore allow fellow limewire users to upload them? If anybody has any ideas please reply. Thanks

the number of alternate locations is increased when some client downloading a file from you submits you any locations. LimeWire does not actively add locations for files it uploads.

Cool thank you

Thank you Trap Jaw. I appreciate it.

Is there some reason why people never upload from me? I keep limewire running several hours a day. I have forced my IP. Is there some way to tell if my files are bad quality? Could it just be the school location factor or the firewall? Could it be that nasty awaiting sources message? Why else would I never have a request for an upload? Maybe I'm just being silly, but I'm curious. Thanks again for your response.

If you are behind a firewall forcing your IP will not do you any good, unless the network administrator set up the router to do port-forwarding.

So I assume you are firewalled and firewalled servents cannot download much at the moment.

Default Interesting Times

You may have noticed that the record industry has just started litigation against four students in US Universities for copyright "offences". This is a part of the new "get tough" stance with the schools and universities (and large employers). You are likely to see a serious restriction on your ability to use any of the P2P systems if you are in the education system or using your employer's computer installation for your own private purposes.

The more interesting piece of litigation is against an American ISP to disclose the real name and address of a home-based user who has several thousand files available for sharing. This raises interesting First Amendment issues but, if as is likely, the ISP is ordered to disclose this information, it will open private individuals to the threat of direct civil action for damages.

The moral of this? Stay a small user and hope the world will pass you by. But the days of "free" exchange in America may be limited.
