![]() hi folks I switched from a (expensice) dial-up to a dsl-provider two weeks ago and since then, the connectivity to the gnutella-network has gotten worse and worse - the results are scarce, as well as the download-results. sometimes (very rarely) I get the whole bandwidth but usually it's "the waiting for more sources"-thing, or the "waiting n seconds"-countdown... what could I do to improve the situation? Thanx alot (I use a G4, OSX 10.2.6, LW 3.5.8jum213) |

![]() hi davery--If I remember correctly, you've already set up the firewall and router, and are sharing a good number of files. Here are a few more tips--sorry if you already know of these. -test connections by searching and downloading a fairly common file every once in a while. "Serial Box" is widely shared by OSX machines, and usually gives >50 hits quite quickly. -check with your ISP. They may be experimenting with file sharing controls, or slowing tranfers while screening for viruses, for example. - keep an eye on the View-> Connections pane. If your connections give poor results, disconnect and reconnect to new hosts. -Find the best times to search. You can get more info on patterns in the Gnutella Netsize here |

![]() for the reply I have no idea at all wether my prov is slowing things down - since it is a major, I guess it's rather a 'customer-load'-thing - and, well, I've been experimenting a bit with wether it makes a differences if I share many or not so many files - guess it's time to change the experiment-situation again and see what happens : ) I just hope I haven't all those partially downloaded files for 'next to nothing -- I hope the hosts will get back online one day or another cheers davery |

![]() btw, if you didn't know, there's a pref for the number of days to keep incomplete files. You may want to set that number higher than the default of 7 days if you don't want to lose them suddenly one day. |

![]() Hi Stief This was one of the first things I did - as soon as I realized the P2P-Network has its 'quirks' - partial downloads are stored forever (well, almost ![]() but, following your suggestion to share more files as a strategy, I did, and, together with switching back to the official release (3.5.8), things seem to improve, there's an experience of getting more files listed (although the physical accessibility still is rather flaky, most of them are just cluttering the download-list, but hey...)... I'm looking forward to see this Net improve! |
