If your Connections Pane shows more than about 6 hosts, that means the code has decided your connection is good enough to serve as an Ultrapeer, handling about 6-7KB/s of gnutella traffic. Congrats.

If your other internet activity slows down, just reduce the upload bandwidth to about 85% in the slider tools->options->uploads. That should prevent any noticable lag when browsing or doing email.

cheers (if you need more info, check out the forum rules for what specs help)

I congratulated you because your connection is well set up and good enough to be an Ultrapeer--able to handle far more messages and traffic than most. Sometimes Ultrapeers are also called Supernodes.

See Arne's http://gnufu.net/ (in German or English)

You shouldn't really notice much slower web browsing and email, but online gaming will be slower.

Check the Library Pane and the Monitors Pane.

The Library shows the files you share, and the Monitor shows the uploads in progress (and pieces of shared downloads that others are also getting)

Well, you haven't told us you connection type and speed. I assume 85% are still too much. I have for example an 1500KBit/256KBit connection. Lets say I have selected Cable/DSL as my connection speed in the settings. Cable/DSL is interpreted as 350KBit/350KBit. 85% of 350KBit are 297.5KBit and as you can see is this still more than my max upload speed.

Fast is relative. OK, go to the settings and select in the Speed settings Cable/DSL as your connection speed and then go to Uploads -> Basic. Start to shift the Upload Bandwidth slider from the right to the left in small steps and stop if your internet is no longer slow. Note: you must press Apply on every change and wait about 10-20 seconds to see the effect.

Note: You don't have more search results or better download speeds in UltraPeer mode, it's just luck.
