Idle Bandwidth

Is there a reason why when just idle Limewire uses so much bandwidth? It is using around 12KB in both directions. Just to clarify that is KILOBYTES and not the total but 12KB in and 12KB out. Nothing else is using b/w nor are there any transfers.
